    Hello,
I want to do engineering after leaving, but dont know what to course do, I don't do french and am sort of between ucd & dit. Which one would be the "best". Also i dont know if I should do a general entry course or pick one and do it straight away.
Thanks for any advice in advance.

I dunno be "Engineering Science" in UCD looks good. It's a 3 + 2 course. 3 years for normal degree and then specialise and get a masters in an are you what for the remaining years.

    Wait, it might be 2 + 3 :S

well if you arent sure you should apply to an general course! then you can decide ater having a year experiencing all of the courses! plus in ucd for eample all 1st years have same timetable! so evn if you pick directly(as i did, im doing chem engineering-1st year) i have the same timetable as my friends who aredoing general! only they have choice at end of year when they have more knowledge of the courses jobs etc....which seems a better option! im lucky in that i still preer chem!!!

as or college you pick...well in general enginering in ucd you have 6 diferent areas to chose from, but in dit only have 4(i think)- but im told that dit's degree is more practical! so whatever suits you like! also do, if you are going to a different country i think due to ucd and trinity being more recogonised etc then dit world wide you are more likely to get a job with a degree from one of them over dit

Thanks for the replies, Does any one know the main ditterences between the engineering science and Engineering degree in ucd.
    Engineering science

    Engineering http://www.ucd.ie/newstudents/infomanual/section_6/DN077.pdf
Would the science one be better but I dont like the sound of a 5 year course.

I'm going to do mech eng next year in UCD or CIT. The whole thing about ITs not being recognised is rubbish, well at least for CIT anyway. There's always CIT eng grads going to places like MIT and Imperial for masters/PhDs. I don't know enough about DIT to comment on it.

If you do a BE(Hons) 4 yr degree in UCD instead of the new 3 yr ones you get another "free" year in college. If you do the 3 + 2, you need a masters to become a professional engineer(?). I think it's stupid changing from 4 to 3 because the 4 yr courses are like those in the US.

Ucd is said to have the best engineering facilities by far. I would reccomend doing the Engineering Omnibus course which is what im going for. Its covers all aspects of engineering and then you get to specify exactly what you want to do which is brilliant if you're like me and have no idea what you want to do!
All the other engineering courses look the exact same for the first year the only difference being you dont have to choose where you're going to specify after the frist year.
Personally im going for the omnibus but if i dont get enough points its probably Mechanical engineering for me!

There are threads and threads and threads on this o'er in the Engineering Forum as well as the College Work forum, so it would be worthwhile going off and having a gander.
