Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ear piercing, gun or needle?

A few months had to have a stud surgicaly removed after about 9 days. The ear swelled and stud was barely visible. Have now made an appointment for both ears to be pierced again. However my friend urges me to get them pierced via needle and cancel that appointment...says an ear pierced by needle heals more quickly. Is this true? Another visit to my G.P. for same would be embarassing!
    Thanks, Alan

hmm.....thats a tough one, to be pierced by the needle that has been fully sterilized or the gun thats been used to pierce possibly hundreds of ears, some of which have bled....

it really depends on where the peircing is,whether in the lobe or the cartilidge further up..a needle should always be used on the cartilidge of the ear. However when most people get their earlobes done, its done with a gun, unless you go to a proper peircer and they will use a needle(jewelers and places like Claires Accessories use guns). I myself prefer needles to guns, not as much of a shock to the the ear ya know and would reccomend going to a reputable peircer and they'll advise you and also tell you about aftercare..maybe check out the tattoos and peircings forum in the Arts section above too...

what? it doesn't depend where the piercing is! it's got nothing to do with it.
Simple fact is that guns are dangerous, not clean/safe/hygenic and can cause major infection and scarring.

Anyways, it should be done with a needle by a reputable piercer.

Without a doubt needle! Definitely, try celestial ring, even just to get advice, ear piercing isnt usual a problem but if you had that kind of reaction its best to get it done properly!

Thanks for assistance all of you...will cancel the 'shotgun ' appointment....no point risking a repeat of previous calamity....and make enquiries about a needle insertion! Get the impression that very few places use this apparently safer option!
    Best wishes, A

Just contacted a body piercing studio E12 by gun, a whopping E60 by needle!

I've been pierced by both a gun (very young, bet with my mom) and a needle. It seems to heal a lot quicker when done by a needle. If i was to get my ears pierced again, I'd go the needle route.

The difference in price you pay to have a piercing done by a piercer with a needle is the difference between cleanliness, knowledge and training of the piercer.

    and really stupid.
just cos you got lucky doesn't mean someone else whose stupid enough to do it will be.

Any piercing, ear or otherwise should be pierced by a needle.
As pornstar already stated, guns are unhygenic and unsafe.
Spend the bit of extra cash and get it done properly. Needle ftw.

I got my lobes pierced by a gun when I was seven and they healed fine. That said I also put a safety pin through the top of my year when the hole was closing up and I was away so had no earring, so maybe I just have tough ears.

Oh also don't we have a tattoo/piercing forum?
