- note there is no www. at the beginning - this seems to be a pooling of the classified ads from local papers and is a bit harder to navigate since it's only in German. However you'll see some in here that don't appear on mobile.de.

As noted before mobile.de is probably the best place to start. You can narrow down the possibilities by age, mileage, area etc. The "Parking" facility is handy and a good place to compare the shortlist by price or age or mileage. In theory it will also alert you if the price changes since you parked one. I have noticed that some dealers seems to remove their ads a few times a week and reenter them - presumably so they will show up as "recent" and/or so you won't notice that they have been about for ages - what happens is that you will then get blanks in your "parking" and you will have to go searching for them again.

Caraworld had some unique ones but some were long gone.

If you knew exactly what you are looking for be aware that you may need to phrase your search in 2 or more ways - for instance a Karmann LT may be found under Karmann, but it could also be under VW. Similarly a Mercedes based Hymer might be under Mercedes or MB rather than Hymer.

Many sellers, particularly private sellers, will not respond to emails from abroad and not in perfect German - they get tons of Nigerian offers to buy their vans with fake $1M bank drafts and requests to forward the balance etc. You'll probably have to phone them.

Oh yeah - avoid a website called www.motohand.de - it looks good but all the sellers I tried to contact either did not respond or said the van was sold ages ago, and that they did not remember putting it up on that site - I guess they are stealing ads from elsewhere to look busier than they really are.

Thanks. I grew up thinking that all fathers could do everything - turns out I had a bit of a biased view! Dad is good with solutions.
