The only thing I can find is this , I dont know if it would work in your case as there are different flavours of DVI ,

DVI-I is analog and digital combined in the one connector ,
    DVI-A is analog only
    DVI-D is digital only

For this to work then there has to be an analog component to your DVI out from your graphics card, otherwise it wont work. So hopefully you have DVI-I or DVI-A.

DVI- D is predominantly a digital signal and cannot be simply fed to a scart socket which is analog.

Heres some info on DVI , note in the table the C1,C2,C3 and C4 connections needed for analog.

tnx for the help but i'm completely lost now as i'm after asking about the wrong connection. not sure what the name of the connection is but it's on my geforce 6800 xtreme agp graphics card there are 2 dvi connections & then one beside these. it's this one to the side i'm wondering if i can connect to a scart connection as it reminds me of a s-video connection. it's shaped something like underneath with a gap beneath the 3 holes & a circle around the lot like on old aerials.

Thats a tv out connection and video capture port , your card must be the Vivo type , the card should have shipped with a connecting cable that ends in multiple connectors, some are inputs some are outputs , see the picture attached.

These cables are proprietary , so if you have lost the adaptor then your out of luck , it wont be a standard item in any electronics shop.

Heres a link to the 6800 manual , its on page 3
