Noel Dempsey is not a coastal TD, representing a flat bit of the midlands as he does.

Therefore Noel has a grand total of €23m to spend on coastal protection over the lifetime of the National Developmenent Plan. This is happily confirmed by Noel on his website here

The Irish Coastline , at the time of writing , is 5800km long and the National plan is 7 years long.

The €23m therefore amounts to €36 per annum per KM of coastline in the state . That amount, €36, would fund the provisioning of 1 Sandbag per km of coastline including the labour and the bag and the sand itself along with the diesel for the Council lorry to get it where its 'needed' .

That is a clear commitment to knock a few square KM off the size of the state by the end of the NDP. Well done Noel :D . You have such clear vision I hope you are the next Taoiseach. I am equally sure that our insurance companies will have duly noted your generous funding and that future premia on the littoral will fully reflect that,
(even Noel Dempsey will have a hard time diverting any of that to his own constituency unless of coursed the Boyne is tidal west of Navan )
