eircom engineer has to report to base, can, t acess line terminals on pole, send crew out to cut back trees,or else new pole may need to be put up ,all lines going to old one will be rerouted.this could take weeks, especially if the neighbour is not there, daytime when engineer calls.Like esb the have special heavy duty crews for cutting trees ,putting up poles.THEY ARRIVE in large trucks, with tools for any situation.employees in vans have standard tools for fault finding ,repairs ,testing cables thats all.according to safety rules it would take 2/3 persons to cut back trees ,the tree makes it impossible to put up ladder safely i assume.or reach the terminal on the pole to diagnose the fault.the neighbour is an idiot to plant fast growing trees near the pole.ITS a very unusual situation. You are being paranoid about eircom,i think.Eircom have to tell nighbour,be4 they go on his property, and say,we need to cut back some trees,to acess the pole ,and check the lines. They are responsible for the line ,up to the main ,terminal ,where the line enters your house.USually the ground floor,or nearest widow, facing the pole.

Its for this same reason that if you call another provider they will generally tell you to goto eircom to get the line connected then switch to them once it has (job lists "going missing" etc or just simply not been done, or random rejection reasons that make bugger all sense to man nor computer that surprisingly... they get away with)
