Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Skype for Linux

Hi, I've done some googling and this seems to be quite a common problem. I can't get skype to connect behind a https proxy. I know for a fact that skype isn't prohibited so I set up Opera with the correct proxy settings and also used export http_proxy="proxy:port" and as I was instructed by one article I read ran skype as root. No luck though:mad: I'm running Gentoo with skype 1.3, opera can connect fine and emerge works too, also skype works at home when not behind the proxy. Has anyone else had any success. Personally I can't fathom why it's necessary to have to configure the network settings for it by such indirect means:confused:

Any chance its blocked at the proxy or the router on the way to internet land ? Some routers have a facility to block skype ( for businesses mainly , appeared after a few lads showed how to manipulate skype .)

Na the college actually has instructions on how to configure it, for windows, but it does confirm that it's not blocked.

The windows settings probably have settings for a socks proxy and port

    Use them.

Well the windows settings tell you to set skype to automatically detect proxy settings but I've downloaded the proxy.pac file which contains a list of the proxies and even in windows I usually just put one in an it works fine. The problem seems to be with the skype version for linux, rather than the proxy disallowing the connection. What I'm hoping is that someone has come across the same problem and found a solution :o

Oh and the college specifies to tell skype to use 443 as an alternate port and use a HTTPS connection. I don't know how to set that in the linux version.

Turns out I was being a bit retarded. I was exporting the proxy settings http_proxy and https_proxy in the terminal then launching skype from the k menu. the variables in the terminal weren't global so had no effect. launched skype, as root, from the same terminal and it worked. added the variables to the .bashrc file now.
