    Howdy,
New to music editing and wondering if there's software out there that splits music into it's different components ie. guitar, drum, bass.
    Maybe I'm asking too much?

A lot of people seem to ask this,
I wonder in a few years when true surround sound gets popular will bands start releasing multi-track recordings??? I've seen the likes of NIN releasing Ableton live and garageband files on their websites, hope it takes off.

That'd be cool alright. I dunno how popular surround sound will become for listening to music though. "My Life in the Bush of Ghosts" by Brian Eno and David Byrne was recently re-released and they made the multitrack WAV files of 2 of the tracks available for download so people could remix them. Its pretty fun to load em into Cubase and mess around. Available here in case anyone is interested: http://bush-of-ghosts.com/remix/bush_of_ghosts.htm

With stem mixing gaining popularity I think there's a possibilty that this format will come to be offered at some stage. Although maybe initially only as specialist downloads or in box sets. Remember that Beach Boys box set that had all the instruments from pet Sounds in the left and all the vocals on the right? A bit like that I reckon.

Stem mixing is intertesing. I haven't fully embraced it but I like the idea. I'm sure many here will be interested. Here's more info.
