New Fulltime Fire & Ambulance Service in Swords from today

From 9am this morning the Fire station in Swords is manned 24/7 by a fulltime crew.
Dublin Fire Brigade also have a new ambulance for emergency calls stationed there also.

The part-time retained service has finished.

Yeah, thought I saw an ambulance coming from a funny direction in Swords this morning on the way to work! Good to see!

Great for the people of swords and north county Dublin. A Fire appliance with 5 Firefighter/Paramedics and an Ambulance with 2 firefighter/paramedics permanently stationed in the area.

Is this totally seperate from the HSE ambulance base in Lissenhall? Will that base remain?

Yes its separate, Its a Dublin Fire Brigade Station with 1 Fire Appliance and 1 Ambulance.
Dublin Fire Brigade now run 12 emergency Ambulances from all the full time fire stations accross the city ( Except Dun Laoire ).
It remains to be seen as to what happens to the ERAS ( Eastern Regional Ambulance Service ) base in Swords. Given the size of the area it should remain IMO

ERAS are more focused on patient transport services, eg transporting a patient in beaumont over to tallaght for other treatment etc. They do emergency calls but quite few in the north county.

The DFB ambulance in Swords is totally separate from ERAS with it being funded by Dublin City Council (Who on behalf of the other 3 local authorities in Dublin run DFB)

The swords ambulance is extreamly busy being out on the road for most if not all of its shift.

The one grievance I had with the whole thing was when swords went full time malahide closed. It doesn't make sense, in this day and age of an economic and property boom DFB management are reducing fire cover not increasing it to cope with higher demand on their services, but hey can't be bringing common sense into this now can we

The full time service in Swords probably has better response times to the Malahide area than their old retained service.

Maybe so, but if it is a large fire another pump is required reducing the cover in the area it is coming from. Response times or not North County is still down 1 pump and in this day and age its not acceptable.

Unfortunately it'll take another large disaster on the scale of stardust before a proper review of the Irish fire services is carried out, which is a joke

Unfortunately the Swords ambulance in Swords Fire station is under threat due to financial constraints with the Dublin Fire Brigade
