    AVG

Its free, it doesn't hog resources and a lot of boards.ie users swear by it.

    avg/mcafee/trend/f-secure

the problem/benefit whichever way you want to look at it, is that each AV company makes up ground on their competitors and in the "league" sense, some are better than other one month and behind the next.

as you have said, norton takes up SOOO much resources even if it is nice on the eye!.

personally i am using AVG on a non-critical laptop, trend+windows ONE CARE on a home pc(for vista) and my work laptop is running F-secure(they have some sort of agreement with them)

all are equally good in my eyes but somehow i just prefer trend. dont ask me why!! their sales pitch of having the quickest solution releases stuck with me... :)

AVG, avast! or Anti-Vir (what I am using) all have free editions and I would recommend either of them over McAfee
