Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

It's happened - Free Linux Driver Development

    This just in:
    "[T]he Linux kernel community is offering all companies free Linux driver development... All that is needed is some kind of specification that describes how your device works, or the email address of an engineer that is willing to answer questions every once in a while. If your company is worried about NDA issues surrounding your device's specifications, we have arranged a program... in order to properly assure that all needed NDA requirements are fulfilled. Now your developers will have more time to work on drivers for all of the other operating systems out there, and you can add 'supported on Linux' to your product's marketing material."
    1500 and growing developers but the demand from manufacturers of consumer, commercial, and industrial devices is potentially colossal.

    But I wonder if they really think they'll need to do it all. The announcement seems aimed at baiting the marketing manager to champion the Linux support cause. At least there's likely to be discussion of Linux at board level, that's free mind-share/awareness, and if they buy in then some market share has been gained.

    If in practice the driver developers become swamped and can't fit delivery to the manufacturers time to market, it can still be advertised with "Linux support to follow via a website download". Some Mnfr's having got the advantage but wanting more control may learn from the first free driver experience then do it in-house.

    In any event this seems to be a seismic event in the OS wars.
