My sister crashed her '02 Corsa 1ltr into a ditch this morning. Front passenger side wheel (steel, not alloy) is all mangled but the mechanic reckons he can fix it. The tyre was completely destroyed. Wishbone and "subframe" (whatever that is) apparently need replacing, also the passenger mirror is broken - not the glass, just the black plastic housing around it. The machanic has sourced replacement parts from breakers. There's no damage to bodywork besides that mirror. What do you reckon the total cost will be?

She's terrified that it'll be 2 grand or something like that, but knowing nothing about car suspension systems I've no idea what it'll be.

TBH, its impossible to say without seeing the car. If a subframe needs replacing then the cost is likely to be more than a grand, possibly two. But when second hand parts and a local mechanic are brought into play, the prices can drop dramatically.

If a subframe needs replacing, I'd be inclined to get the chassis checked in case it's been twisted/bent/strained. Check that the gaps between panels are even - if they are out there could be 'hidden' damage.

Yeh , Chances are the roof may be buckled, check around the door frame to see if its even all the way around the seam.

If its an 02 it might be beyond economical repair, something else to check for would be if it disengages or engages gear.

Sorry about the ditch though.. that sucks :(

Better that than another car !

If anything, she's learned a lesson from it.
