Looking to do a webpage for a pet shop
Most of the site wont be much of a problem but i also want a shopping cart and
the capability to buy stuff from this site
Im going to write it myself and have plenty of experience(its just been a while)
So does anyone have any recommendations?
Is php or asp the way to go or is there anything simpler ?
I will be coding the site but wont be updating it so want it to be as easy to
edit as i can possibly make it
For the credit card aspects is worldplay the way to go
Also should i go for a precoded shopping cart solution like
    http://www.ekmpowershop.co.uk
    or
    http://www.fastcart.co.uk
Will these just add to the cost and reduce the flexibility of my site or are they worth it
Thanks for the help and advice
    Mike

Payment gateway questions seem to pop up every two weeks or so.
    The last discussion is here.
If you need more, just do a search for worldpay, realex etc.

I don't really see why you would spend all that time coding a shop system from scratch unless you have very specific requirements. PHP/MySQL store systems out there are Zen Cart, osCommerce and dozens more. Take a look at hotscripts.com for a lot of others.

I use Paypal with a reseller account, you can easily get credit cards payment with Visa, Amex, Mastercard. But Paypal fees are not the cheapest ones, I never tried anything else yet.

Last time I checked; If you have a business account with paypal, then your customers don't have to sign up for paypal. I don't know how obvious they make this though.

Paypal provides a reseller account if you are a registered company. Well even if you are not you can use it, but this has been designed for companies, not individuals.

Well basically this provides a webpage asking for the amount to pay.
Paypal provides the link to this payment gateway in a Paypal logo.
    This accepts Visa, Mastercard, Amex.
There is no registration or so, just asking for the customer details, to make sure, he is the card owner.
Fees are not that bad, but you could find cheaper.
I think it is about 3-5%, dont remember exactly.
You can even bill your customers by email

But I think Paypal is well more known by the public (More confidence ?) plus Paypal has a lot of employees in Ireland, so people might be more confident to place order through Paypal.

Plus I forgot, Paypal integrates directly with several online solutions such as OsCommerce. 5mn to set up...

If you want I could provide this service to you, I have the ressources.
That would be free, I do nto make money out of hosting, and you are totaly autonomous with your own account, I do not have access. You would just need to buy the domain name and point it to my DNS Servers, and create this Paypal account.

I provide pre-packed apps such as OsCommerce, really easy to install. There is a small fee for this one as far as I remember, about 20 USD or so, not sure will check this thing later.

I have a lot of professional hosting space if you want, for over 2 years now.
Had a 5 mn downtime in 2 years.

    Hey mick.fr
was actually looking at OsCommerce as my shopping cart
too much work in coding it from scratch and i dont have the time
Not 110% sure of what u were offering in your post but if it was hosting or help
or whatever its more than welcome and appreciated
Thinking of going down the paypal route but not completely sure yet
Is there any issues with paypal holding money like worldplay or anything like that?
    Thanks again for the help

Yeah forget about coding something like that from scratch.

Do you have a domain already ?

If so change your DNS Servers to :
    ns194.websitewelcome.com
    ns193.websitewelcome.com

and I will give you a free hosting account directly, with cPanel etc...

You are still master of your own domain.

IF you do not have a domain, I will show you a live demo, on one of my domain.

You will see, it takes 5 mn to install an osCommerce.
Then of course, after that all the work of customization, but no big deal.
