    SUNIL SHARPE:
Sunil Sharpe has over the last number of years, become a well–known contributor to the Irish scene; gaining, most notably, a formidable reputation as a techno DJ. From small sweatboxes to Creation raves to the occasional superclub, Sunil has ripped it apart at venues across the country, as well as abroad at clubs including Locked in Manchester, Dustream in Slovakia and Berlin’s legendary Tresor.

Also an accomplished writer and radio show host, Sunil cut back on these extra commitments as well as DJ gigs, early in 2005 – which also allowed him to concentrate more of his time on production. “Keylight” came out on 2005’s Eire Electronic compilation, while in 2006 he made his vinyl debut on UK label Open Source with the “The Various Things Occurred EP” - a split 12” with Sebastien Marx. Sunil soon caught the ear of Minneapolis techno maverick Paul Birken, who released “Monster Load” on his respected Tonewrecker imprint.

2007 will be one of Sunil’s most active in a while, beginning with a series of gigs with DJ Kalif in February, the start of a monthly mix session on 2FM, the release of some new music, and the commencement of another new project he is lining up. Still to be found behind the counter at Dublin’s renowned record emporium Spindizzy, and teaching DJ Techniques at Bray Institute of Further Education; Sunil is as ever, a busy fellow.

    DJ KALIF:
Kalif began DJing in Brazil in 1996. Even then techno was No. 1 in his life, and he was becoming known for his banging techno sets when he won his first residency at the Deguste Jungle Bar - where he played deeper, and more atmospheric music.

In late 1998 Kalif moved to Ireland, when he arrived in Dublin, techno was just coming of age. It didn’t take him long to find his feet and he got invited by Derek F to play at the legendary Fusion warehouse parties. Since then, he has played all over Ireland, France and Brazil. A regular on the clubbing scene in Dublin, he has spun at Switch, The Kitchen, The Metropolitan, The Temple Bar Music Centre, Isaac Butts, as well as free parties and outdoor raves.

He became even better-known in France, at clubs like Le Rex Club, La Batofar, La Vila, La Pacha, amongst others. Venues he has played in Brazil include Bunker 94, Lov.e Club and Broadway. He has DJ-ed alongside an impressive list of international DJs, including Umek, Chris Liberator, Claude Young, Marco Bailey, Ben Sims, G-Force, Cari Lekebusch, Mistress Barbara, Tonio, Mark Williams, Christian Smith, DJ Marky and Renato Cohen. He is now based in Rio de Janeiro where he plays his weekly radio show “Resistance” which is live on the airwaves at every Tuesday at submusica.com

    AMERICHORD:
Americhord is Maura O'Boyle from Dublin City, Ireland. Veering from techno through electro to electronica, Americhord represents a versatile sound that has matured from raw power of bass and kick, through to ghostly atmospherics, deft composition and sheer emotional dancefloor impact.

Her dedication to true studio production aesthetics have seen live performances alongside names such as Andrew Weatherall, Vitalic, Ellen Allien and Dan Curtain in Fabric, Haywire and numerous Dublin based events.

Americhord has released on D1 Recordings, D1aspora, UK electronic label Law & Auder and Dublin electronica imprint Frontend Synthetics.

    Boomkat describes D1aspora:
Her debut release for D1aspora through Submerge kicks off with 'Midnight' - a moody affair with dubbed out signals and bubbling basslines, keeping it minimal, funky and versatile enough for both techno and house sets.'Invader' has the drive and atmospheric elements that work in the darkest ends of the warehouse and sweatiest clubs, reminiscent of Red Planet and Purpose Maker in places.

Dave has been a busy man playing at nights such as Electric city and alongside Jerome Hill at Tecknowarefare. With his unique minimal style he will be sure to get the crowd going for what will be a night not to be missed. For updates and mixes checkout:[/img]http://www.myspace.com/junction303

    Sunils chart

    (in no particular order)

    Alter Ego - Blitz (Klang)
The Klang kings return to the deep stuff here, and it sounds like they've never been away. "Blitz" is the standout and is as good as any of their classic Acid Jesus material. A nice way to start 2007, lets hope there’s more to come.

Paul Birken - Junk Profanity EP (Tonewrecker)
Paul is one of the few techno producers who regularly displays his sense of humour in the music he makes. "Fender Bender" is the one to watch here - groovin' distorted guitar techno done right!

CH Signal Laboratories – Hypnotica Scale (Sandwell District)
The odds are this is Regis or Female (or maybe both) under an alias. At first listen it's pretty uneventful, sparse minimal gear; and in many ways it is! But there are some lovely dynamics going on here - great for long mixes, and heard loud.

Ed Chamberlain – Fixxy 2 (Base Logic)
He's not being touted as "the future of UK electro" for no reason. Ed's melodies are stunning, and this second part in the "Fixxy" series is probably better than the first, which is a great achievement! "Gutz" in particular is beautiful.

    Mike Dearborn - Birds on E (Djax-Up-Beats)
An oldie but a goodie. Forget the Edge Of Motion and Sandy Warez remixes, it's all about the re-released original here - a blistering acid cut from one of the kings of Chicago's second wave.

The Fall – Post TLC Reformation (Slogan)
Wouldn’t consider myself a hardcore fan of The Fall, but was instantly impressed by the performance of the new lineup on this record. Again it's got a different character to the last album, but still with the band's distinctive feel. “Systematic Abuse” gets me moving the most!

Ghost - In Stormy Nights (Drag City)
These guys go all over the place - it's all very experimental but with certain leanings towards Krautrock. The one I like best is the dark and threatening "Hemicyclic Anthelion", which eventually escalates into swarms of FX and sharp noise.

Monolake & Deadbeat - Random Brown (Cynosure)
This has been out a little while but deserves a big mention. The more Monolake style side is the one to watch - superb use of reverb on the lead sound, while the overall drive and looseness of the track is quite unique. Can't think of many producers releasing techno as good as this at the moment; really looking forward to the upcoming mix for Surgeon!

    Skeetaz/ C.Mantle – Spacebar Superstars Vol.2 (Spacebar Sentiments)
One of the most happening labels around right now without doubt. Hard to pick a favourite here, but Skeetaz's "Skeeters" has raised the bar again, for the complex electro onslaughts this label specializes in.

The Speed Freak – Cucumbah Tool (Industrial Strength)
Better known to some as Biochip C, Speed Freak (aka Martin Damm) is breaking down the walls on this one. Expertly programmed with grating sound sequences rubbing against sledgehammer kicks; this is slow enough for hard techno heads, but heavy enough for hardcore heads. Storming!

    Cheers,
    Junction Crew
