External Hard Drive Power Supply

I have a 250gb ext hard drive and I wonder if I can supply it from power direct from my PC. Instead of using the external transformer, can I tap into the hard drive power supply in the PC case. It would save me using an other wall plug and cut down on the wires around the back of the PC. ?
