Down with this kind of thing!
Thief escaped on bike after €40,000 raid

A BIKE recovered near the scene of a €40,000 ATM robbery by a lone armed raider is thought to be the getaway vehicle.

The raider held up a security company employee at the Douglas Court shopping centre in Co Cork while a cash-in-transit van was making a delivery to an ATM machine on Monday morning.

Sources have indicated that as much as €40,000 may have been stolen.

The male raider approached a Group Four Securicor employee as the guard was making a delivery to an ATM machine at the AIB bank. The thief produced a handgun and demanded that the delivery man hand over the cash.

The employee handed over the money and the lone attacker made his escape on a bicycle in the direction of Rochestown Avenue. The raider was wearing a baseball cap, a jacket and carrying a blue rucksack. A security mechanism built into security cash boxes causes a dye to seep through the cash when the box is stolen. Gardai warned people to be on the lookout for €50 notes with pink dye around the edges.

Roadblocks were placed across the city and on access routes in a hope to catch the raider. Detectives were examining CCTV footage and talking to witnesses.

Anyone held up at the roadblocks?

How big a pannier bag do you require to hold €40k?

I was out twice and no one stopped me. Maybe it was too cold and wet for the investigators.

We will probably see a huge increase in bicycles being used for getaways.

The bicycle guards will have to request road bikes to persue the high specification models.

Will there be an advanced cyclist course needed for this.

    The mind boggles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good job he didn't get away on foot. He'd be giving all pedestrians a bad name, eh.
