I hope this an appropriate place to ask this. I get a squeaking noise whenever I go over speed bumps and the like. Could it be I need new shocks or something?

Could be coming from the bushings. Easy way to find out is to get a can of WD-40 freeing oil and spray the bushings and see if the noise stops.

When the car is stationery try pressing down on each wing to see which side the squeaking is coming from. This could mean that one of your shock absorbers needs to be replaced. Most tyre or exhaust centres these days fit shock absorbers too.

Most likely a shock absorber gone weak. Had the same problem before Christmas. Could also be the bushings as mentioned earlier but more likely to be a shock IMHO.

May not pick up the sound just by pushing down on the corners but you might pick up imbalance in the shocks by pushing in the middle of the rear and again at the front.

Another thing to note if it is a shock absorber that is knackered, you need to replace the pair of them, i.e. if one of the front shocks is gone replace the other front shock too. The new shock absorber will cause the shock on the opposite side to weaken.
