Is there any downside to a static IP?

    As the title says, is tehre any downside in giving your pc a static ip/ is there any reason why you wouldnt?

    Not really, unless you intend on getting IP-banned from certain websites :)

    The advantages of having it for whatever you want to do will probably outweigh such things.

    No disadvantage unless you had a portable and wanted to connect it to different networks.

    in some cases you need to give Pcs a static IP - where other devices need to connect to them and the ip address need to be constant.

    The IP which would be banned would not be you PCs internal address. It would be the IP assigned by the ISP.

    Sometimes certain sites only let you download a set amount from an individual IP per day.

    As Paddy O says thet wouldnt be an internal ip address... how many millions of pc's would that cover..It would be the Ip assigned when you connect Via your isp
