Just wondering do many or any here keep a blog ? or is it a bit last year ?
I have just started a photoblog , where i want to record a moment each day in my life for a year, no text !
Thats the plan anyway , even though i have just started i can see it requires a lot of discipline , as i have seen a lot of blogs getting started and then fading out .
Anyway my blog has just started for Feb and is available at
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/thebaz/sets/72157594514066440/

A friend of mine has taken a picture of herself at the same time every day for the last 5 years! Its started off as a project in Uni, and she realised that by doing that, you can remember so much more about your life!

That explains tabloid newspaper sales, then.

    Terribly generalised, and horribly unfair.

Whether the blog has any value depends on the blog, to be honest. Some 16 year old girls blog isn't going to be of interest to many outside of people she knows, whereas a corporate\technical\political blog will be of interest to many more people.

Nobody cares what you ate for breakfast.
Nobody cares that someone cut you off on the M50.
Nobody cares what your opinions are, at all, about anything.
Blogs are utterly, utterly pointless, unless you are famous, or a mouthpiece for a large corporation, i.e major nelsons blog for xbox live.
I would go so far as to say that 100% of the blogs ive read by users here were boring, pointless, and i wanted the time i spent reading them back.
That SKANGERLAND one thats always on the main page here being one of the worst offenders.

Nah, dont keep a blog, coz as someone else said, no-one gives a damn what I think. Nice Dublin photo's on yours though OP.

well basing my comment on the most general blogs around I think its fair. Some topics may be interesting, but I suppose then those type of blogs would be more so of a traditional regular internet site as apposed to someone mouthing on about how many sugars they put in their tea, what happened to them the day they descovered subway rolls, or the fellas/girls they shagged.

Thats kind of my idea , even though I have just started out , i can see what should be an easy task becoming a painstaking chore , every day taking a photo , editing and uploading ... but .. in a years time i can look back , and see a visual representation of a moment of each day in my life .

I want to keep my blog purely visual , as i agree most people don't want to know what i had for breakfast , how long i spent in traffic or how upset i get watching Ireland under Steve Stauntan -- my relationship difficulties might make more interesting reading , but i'd prefer keep that private -- anyway i'll perserve with it !

My blog is under revision as I want it to be something that is read and appreciated as opposed to the pile of poo it was before Christmas :D I'm still formulating a strategy for it but hope to have it up and running shortly.

Why not make a video of it like Noah (Everyday for 5 years!)? Add it to your blog at the end of one year.

Because if anything, Vlogs are even MORE boring than blogs. Its one thing reading pointless twaddle, it another thing SEEING pointless twaddle being mumbled awkwardly by some gimpchild on a webcam.

    I blog, or I did.

Started off ok, kinda faded away a bit when RL™ got busy.

Started as a way to keep my friends up to date as to what was going on while away on co-op. As did theirs.

Must get back to it after college..

I have one, but it's private. I just use it to remember stuff because my memory is fúcked.

I've kept a blog for years but it's mostly a way of staying in touch with friends that I don't get to see very often rather than anything that would of interest to someone who doesn't know me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

i've a blog, see my sig. Almost a post a day for the past 4 months :D

great way of keeping track of everything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 444 ✭✭Esmereldina

I'd like to start one, but can never quite be bothered ....
I think that most of the 'so here's what I did today' kinds are fairly boring, but if you make one about a particular thing that you are interested in, that can appeal to a small, specialised public, I think it could have some potential...
What annoys me is when you try to register your username on blogspot, find out it's a;ready gone, and then out of curiosity to see who the person is who took your name first  you visit their blog, to find out its someone who poster about 3 times in one day, and then left it.
The 3 posts went something like this:
So, this is my new blog.
[A few hours later] Well I'm on the new blog again and I can't think of anything to say...
[Later that evening] Only one day on the new blog and I'm already so bored.

:confused: One has to ask: why?

I've been meaning to start a blog, probably just to have something to look back at the end of the year and be reminded of incidents which might otherwise be forgotten. Also, will probably base some of it around poker come March or so, just as a way of keeping myself on track.
I wouldn't particularly care if it got read by others or not, though I'm sure it will, in fact, I may even sell advertising space on it as my lifes just that interesting.

I may even have a picture part of it, if I decide to buy a digital camera.

Also, I read a few blogs. Mainly poker players though, as I find it interesting to see how they're doing and their thoughts on their results.

i was very sceptical at first.. i'd known about it for a few months but thought it was just a big scam..

but some big players in the internet world have joined and are putting a lot of time in to it...

for me, it was more a case of 'i'll join just incase this turns out to be big'.

I didn't want to miss the boat, and neither do you :)

The rate ****** is growing at is incredible.. it could revolutionise advertising on the net. Google could kiss goodbye to half of their income, if ****** delivers what it promises...

Do you get paid by them for browsing?Or have you gotten paid? From what I gather from the frontpage, they'll pay you for surfing, but I don't get that post "wonder if it'll even work in Ireland"?

At the end of the day, most of the posts on boards.ie are worthless wastes of internet space - but no one forces you to read them. The same is true of blogs.

He didn't blink once in 5 years. He must be great at staring competitions.

I kept a blog from for all of 1st year in college, then I realised it was a bit silly, and then gave it up. Was pretty good though.

the software hasn't been officially launched yet, it's in beta edition atm..

It won't be ready for another month or so from what i gather. Yes, it will work in Ireland..

The question isn't if it will work, it WILL work.

Yes, you get paid for browsing. Any purchases you make online, you'll also get some 'cashback' from them.. Imagine 10m people buying things on ebay, dell, ebookers etc.. YOU'LL be getting a slice of that cash.

But the question everyone wants to know is HOW MUCH they'll get paid. The more referals you have, the more you earn.. that's why it's growing like mad - everyone is registering!

Imagine owning a slice of youtube when it was sold for $1.6billion.. imagine owning a slice of google etc... at the minute, ****** is becoming one of the big guns.. and we'll be rewarded for that - or should be.

I couldn't be bothered with the whole blogging thing as it would be far too much effort, but my Xbox has a different opinion on them and seems to be keeping up with the writing stuff about what it got up to on most days.

    Yeah, you're gonna get that.

But it's the same with any new fad.

The google search results have been frightening.. atm 1.42m results for '******'. A few weeks ago, it was under 1m.

It would be a laugh if this was some nigerian scammer just gathering email addresses :D

however it's not, it's the real deal. This system was successful for a short time under a different name, but collapsed in the dot com crash of 2000 like so many others.

As the internet has grown vastly since then and people are spending more, it will be hard to see this failing again.

Well it hasn't announced what countries it will run in. It said it might not run in countries that are two small. But I guess they will count europe as a country actually - because of the euro.

Yeah hopefully it'll work. Hard to get people to sign up on referal though. They are always suspicious or think it's a waste of time. Wouldn't mind getting even 20 a week :D Just for doing what I do normally

yes, people won't register until they see the likes of us with cheques in our hands.. then they'll be like 'wtf? why didn't i hear of that'

even with zero referals, you *should* get between $5-10/month. Depends on the amount of members overall of course.

Nicely put. Blogs are for losers - and nobody even reads them, or gives a sh*t about what bloggers get up to in their boring existence.

"So I went for a job interview today...."
    "Man I hate work...."

If they had lives, they wouldn't have time to write about mundane drivel!

    no problem, sig edited also..

However it's hardly 'spam' if i'm answering questions on it and explaining the whole concept and reasons why it will work  also, i'm not gaining from and won't be for a long time. It's just like mentioning my blog and telling people to look at it. I don't gain from it financially and probably won't for a long time.

If i wanted to spam, i'd go to after hours at about 10pm, register a new account and create a new thread with my link there. That would be spam.

    Ralex there buddy.
The thing is, any site that requires people to register and then prompts members to promote that site is regarded as spam.
That particular site popped up in the spam list last night (as i predicted earlier in this therad) and anyone pimping it from now on will recieve a ban.
I'm sure it's a worthwhile cause and youcould possibly make a few quid out of it, but this is not the place to do it.
