Belkin PCI card & Win98SE

I'm trying to connect a second PC to BB ethernet , the PCI card works fine in my newer PC (XP) but when I install in the older (Win98SE) the machine does not detect new hardware . I have looked at the manual , its compatible with Win 95 to XP , the updated driver online is only for win 2000 and later , I have tried installing the driver but still could not find the hardware .

Any suggestions welcome

Do you mean you tried installing the driver allegedly only for 2000 and XP? That will not work at all. You need to find a driver for Windows 98SE specifically - do you not have the original disc that came with it?

Alternatively get some old second-hand NIC - old 3com Etherlink IIIs are common as muck and pretty much worthless these days, or if the PC doesn't have any ISA slots an Etherlink 10/100 should also work with standard Windows drivers.

I dont think its a driver problem , have disc with a Win98 driver (Mar06), and can't see an update online.
The PC (1998 Gateway) does not report that it has found new hardware , I have tried the card in all 3 free slots but not a gix out of the Pc for my effort .
