I'm looking for a second hand, large family car, probably an mpv that will be wheelchair accessible for my father as well as take all the kids and paraphenalia needed on long journeys.

Have no experience of any types of 7-seater so would appreciate any suggestions as what make/model would be a good buy for our needs.

    Thank you

a wheelchair takes up a lot of space, unless you buy a minibus you won't get six additional seats beside the wheelchair space.
You could try THIS for size, though.

Thanks, but I was thinking of a car that would be easy for my dad to be transferred in and out of his chair, and then the chair folded up and put in the back.

Well if you do not want a big one and want an MPV then the scenic is lovely and has plenty of space even in the back. not fast but still its a lovely car.

If you want more space.. in fact crap loads then the Toyota Lucinda, enima or whatever version of the same model is a good idea.. mostly these cars are late 90's but lots of space and very reliable.

If you do not care about looks then the Fiat Multipla is a good bet.

The old shape Opel Zafira won the Motability award(Motability are an orgainisation which assist diabled people with their mobility needs) a long while back. http://www.motability.co.uk/Templates/Internal.asp?nodeid=89589
But thats definately too small for you. If could find it, a Toyota Previa is huge and has space for 8, and should be reliable. The Fiat Ulyesse, Citroen C8, Peugeot 807 are probably much easier to find, but they're much more likely to wrong all the time. There are other MPV's such as the VW Sharan, Ford Galaxy which normally I'd be more inclined to recommend, but they don't have sliding doors and would therefore not as useful to you. The Chrysler Voyager is also huge, but it got a big fat zero in a European Safety test for front impact protection.
Realistically I can't see you going for anything other than a converted van, such as the car peasant mentioned. Or you could always try this http://www.usedcars.ie/usedcars/index.cfm?fuseaction=car&carID=588364
