    Hi folks,

Just wondering if anyone knows what I could get a turbo charger + fitting to an 06 almera?

    Thanks

    Hi.
To turbo charge a car that doesn't normally have a turbo your talking totally uneconomical. Major internal work has to be done to the engine to strengthen it. non turbo cars aren't built internally for the high pressures of turbo charging. They need their compression ratio changed and strengthened conrods (forged conrods) plus a totally new stand alone injection system.
    The job would cost thousands!

The only turbo almera you would get is a turbo diesel!

I'd go for a full engine swap before putting a turbo on a N/A engine. I'd also buy a Skyline rather than invest that much money in an Almera. If you really wanted to go ahead, buy a copy of Japenese Performance magazine and check out the tuning specialists in that - there's usually a feature on a car they've already tuned too.

Hmm, i know that I was going to be looking around 3 - 5k for it. Didnt think there would be so much engine work involved though. Hmm! :p What the best induction kit available?

Thanks again for all the responses

Best induction kit would be a K&N. Or Green cotton airfilters. The almera has an airbox at the top of the engine, don't know whether a induction kit would fit there. surely a special kit.
I'd get a replacement K&N air filter that will fit into the original air box. you'll have more air flow and a good induction roar.

Turbos generate a lot of heat and pressure - the engine has to be modified to deal with it. How much modification depends on the engine, but it's hard to find people to strip and rebuild an engine these days and you'll be paying through the nose for it.

I wouldn't spend my money on a K&N filter either. It sounds like you've the budget to go for a proper cold air induction kit and exhaust system. If I was modding an Almera, that's about all I'd do to the engine. If you're really looking for performance, you'd be looking at big money to get a small increase out of that engine.

I tried getting a K&N filter before, but they dont do one for my car (as of yet). Any ideas best place to get a cold air induction fitted? I know they are fairly standard ones now, but I seem to be having difficulty getting one for the car.

    THanks again

I bought my exhaust and air filter off takakaira.com and got my mechanic to fit them. The stuff I bought was designed for my car though. It might be best to find someone who could supply and fit a universal/custom kit for your car in Dublin. I don't know anything about tuning companys up there. There's a place in Ashbourne that seemed okay when I was there but ****** if I can remember the name.

Bare in mind that modding cars can kill off hugh interest if you are looking to sell it on in the future. I know its a car modding forum and all that, but just bare it in mind.

Not being smart but why not save the money instead, leave the car standard and buy something with a bit more poke instead?? Spending 3-5k on this car is, IMO, dead money. You won't have a hope of seeing it back. A lad I used to know spent about €8k on a bog standard 1.0 corsa and when the time came to sell it he couldn't figure out why no-one would pay €8k over the odds for his bodykit and vinyl festooned shed :D

Have a look at the VZR/BZR (not sure which it is!) Pulsars, not a bad car, if you want to stick with that shape car.

It's something I can never understand, lads spending thousands on cars to make them marginally faster instead of just saving up and putting it into something a bit quicker out of the box.

I drive a VZR. only available in the older model though (mine is a 98). Is a 1.6 engine with variable valve timing and lift (Neo VVL), nissans version of a vtech. Is quite fast at about 175bhp.

i have a pulsar, thats a 95 model. im not sure how much they have changed the engines since, however. I have the same problem with my filter, its a flat filter. Just cut the induction pipe at the bottom, attatch the K&N (or whatever brand you choose)cone filter there and take the original filter out. works just the same, just make sure to put masking tape or seal any holes in the pipe leading up to the air intake valve.
my engine has a lovely roar to it now.
plus then if you want to sell it without the mods, just re tape or glue up the pipe. all else fails buy a new induction pipe.

Youd wanna be mad to try and turbo your almera as its stands,id imagine it'd whack a 5k budget out of it fairly quickly too.

Youd be better looking at an sr20det engine swop or the likes if its even possible to do.

You'd be a hell of alot better saving your 5k and putting it towards buying an already turbo'd car

    About your induction kit.

They are just a metal tube with a filter on it. If anything you should be asking 'What's the best air filter for my induction kit'. Tbh i'd just buy a cheap kit off ebay and stick a decent filter on the end. http://www.suped.ie do a wide range of them but not all are on their website so you may have to call down to them in JFK ind. Est.

Suped are closed down awhile now

Also be wary of a car that new with an aftermarket filter, may cause havoc with your air flow meter and keep throwing an engine check light
