Digital TV In Apartment Buildings

Not sure if this is the correct forum - feel free to move mods!

I know a lot of Management Companies don't allow satellite dishes on the outside of apartment buildings. I heard Sky can put a dish on the roof of the building and then it serves a number of apartments, but I think there has to be at least 4 or 5 apartments that want it. Is this true? Is there any other way to get Sky Digital without having to have 4 or 5 apartments that want it. Do Management Companies normally allow the dish to be placed on the roof?

Normally management companies don't allow satellite dishes. In some cases, they also have the right to remove the dishes. Even a shared dish may not be allowed.

Your best bet is to contact your management agent and ask.

I haven't moved into the place yet, I just want to find out before I move in. I've emailed the management company.
I really don't want to get NTL, I want to avoid them if at all possible.

My friend and his gf moved int o an apartment last year they were told "no sky" so he got some crappy digital thing in that the apartment was wired for, all around people have sky dishes

Got an email back from the Management Company saying that no dishes are allowed on the outside OR on the roof!! :eek:

What are my alternatives to having Sky Digital? I want a really good digital TV service.
I was reading here that the government are phasing out analogue terrestrial TV. Is this only in the UK?

a bit of nitpicking: do you have a balcony? can you fix it in a way *inside* your balcony so that it is kind of invisible? or do you have to get permission what to do on your balcony?

I'm not too sure how big the balcony is? You'd think in this day & age that there would be no need for a satellite dish :rolleyes:

By law you need planning permission to mount a dish on the front of your home (apt or house).

Most management companies don't allow the mounting of a dish anywhere (even on a balcony).

"A satellite dish (up to one metre across the below the top of the roof) at the back or side of the house (a dish on the front needs planning permission). Only one dish may be erected on a house."
