Looks like the natives are getting restless!
Traders' fears over Spurs' land grab
    >Tottenham, Wood Green and Edmonton Journal
    >14 February 2007
    >
    >TRADERS in Tottenham High Road have called for an end to the
    >uncertainty surrounding the future of Tottenham Hotspur and
    >White Hart Lane stadium.
    >
    >The club is currently considering whether to expand its
    >current home off Tottenham High Road or build a new stadium in
    >another location.
    >But club officials have been buying up land and property
    >around the ground in preparation for expansion - and now local
    >business owners feel it is time to use that land rather than
    >leave it boarded up.
    >
    >Derek Lewis, chairman of Tottenham Traders' Association, said:
    >"They have bought so much property everywhere. They've bought
    >the petrol station, they got the factory behind it.
    >
    >"In a lot of ways I think it would be nice if they would make
    >up their mind.
    >They own so much of the property there. It's all boarded up
    >and the high street is looking crumbier.
    >
    >"I understand they have bought the old dispensary. I wish they
    >would do something to make the place look a bit smarter.
    >
    >"It's not very attractive. They are not making the area look
    >very attractive to visitors."
    >
    >Both the new Wembley Stadium and the Olympic Stadium have been
    >mooted as possible new grounds for the club.
    >
    >But many traders depend on the club for survival and would
    >prefer it to expand its current stadium rather than leave the area.
    >
    >Spurs chairman Daniel Levy said a statement: "In respect of
    >the stadium, we continue to drive the process in consultation
    >with a number of bodies and we continue to site assemble
    >around the stadium to ensure we are in control of our
    >surroundings. It will be a long process but one on which we
    >are committed to deliver."
    >
    >Ivor Horgan, manager of the Corner Pin pub, Park Lane, said
    >numerous pubs had closed in recent years along the High Road.
    >He added: "They all closed in the last 10 years because there
    >is no business. If Spurs went it would be goodbye."
    >
    >Mr Lewis said: "If they pulled out it would affect me but not
    >as much as the food shops and pubs. Some of the food shops
    >rely on the football season to make their money for the year.
    >A lot of those shops make their living on Spurs."
    >
    >Apart from Rudolph's Bar and Queen Codiac's King Neptune fish
    >and chip shop, whose lease is up for sale, all the buildings
    >in front of the stadium in Tottenham High Road are now owned
    >by the club.
    >
    >A factory, which used to be in Paxton Road, is now a car park
    >for the club.
    >Archway Sheet Metal Workers and a Jehovah's Witness centre are
    >the only other businesses that remain in Paxton Road.
    >
    >A bid to extend the Victoria Line to Northumberland Park
    >Station was turned down in 2003. It is understood improvements
    >to transport links in the area would be a prerequisite to any
    >major expansion of the stadium.

they own so much of the property there. It's all boarded up and the high street is looking crumbier.

The High Road is looking crumbier because every f*cking "trader" sells tat and phone cards.

I'd love us to stay @ the Lane, but I'd also love if we leveled the entire area around the ground. Its a complete kip.

Development of the Lane depend on improvements to public transport according to Levy and co, but in fairness the options are there for fans travelling. White Hart Lane and Northumberland Park are both close, and Seven Sisters and Tottenham Hale are within 25 minutes.

Think Spurs have no intention of leaving WHL. Thats why theyre buying up the sites around. Those sites are worth nothing to anyone else. If Spurs pulled out the whole area would sink even further!

Re the transport I have to laugh at some of the London based supporters. Some of them want a stadium down at the end of their garden. Brisk walk from Seven Sisters never done anyone any harm! ;)
