    Wii U eShop

Chasing Dead (2020 Venture, €29.99/ £24.99) - There are only a handful of first-person horror experiences on Wii U, with this FPS keen to add itself with distinction to that list. The plot is a complex one involving manipulation of time and space along with evil doppelgangers; we suspect the main goal is to shoot everything in sight.

Grumpy Reaper (EnjoyUp Games, €4.99 / £4.49) - An 'arcade-style' game with a quirky concept, you play a reaper that mows the lawn to contain escaping spirits and dead creatures, or something...

U Host (Bear Box Media, €9.99/ £8.99) - An interesting idea for party hosts with a Wii U, as this promises the ability for you to create your own quiz show either using 1000 pre-loaded questions or by creating your own.

    Wii U Virtual Console

Advance Wars: Dual Strike (Nintendo, €9.99/ £8.99) - One of the much-loved entries in this Intelligent Systems series, its arrival may help appease those waiting for the latest 3DS title (Fire Emblem Fates) from the studio or those wondering where the Advance Wars series has gone. This was the third entry in the series and the first on DS, offering plenty of drama and strong strategic gameplay across two screens, in this case putting the GamePad and TV to work.

    Wii U Retail Download

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess HD (Nintendo, €49.99 / £39.99) - The 30th Anniversary of this series gets well and truly underway with a HD remaster boasting spruced up visuals, controls and amiibo content.

    Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts

    Resident Evil Revelations (Capcom, €9.99/ £7.99 until 17th March, normally €49.99 / £39.99)
    BLOK DROP U (RCMADIAX, €0.35/ £0.30 until 31st March, normally €1.49 / £1.29)
    TABLETOP GALLERY (RCMADIAX, €0.70/ £0.65 until 31st March, normally €2.99 / £2.69)

    3DS eShop

Musicverse: Electronic Keyboard (Abylight, €7.99/ £7.19) - The 3DS eShop has had quite a few music creation tools, with this one keen to promote sharing options through Miiverse, QR codes or simply through saving the AAC file to your SD card. It has a whole load of variations in sounds and settings, along with video tutorials to help you along.

Parascientific Escape Cruise in the Distant Seas (CIRCLE Entertainment, €4.99/ £3.99) - Another intriguing import from CIRCLE Entertainment; you play as a Japanese High School student with two psychic powers who also happens to be trapped aboard a cruise ship.

    3DS Retail DLC

LEGO Marvel's Avengers Season Pass (WB Games, €9.99/ £7.99)
Lego Marvel Avengers: Avengers Adventurer (WB Games, €0.99/ £0.79)
Lego Marvel Avengers: The Thunderbolts (WB Games, €1.99/ £1.69)
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight: Treasures Untold (NIS America, €1.99/ £1.79)
Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight: The Original Sin (NIS America, free until 11th March, then €2.99/ £2.69)

The price for Twilight Princess is a disgrace, they've some neck. It's a digital copy of a 10 year old game that's had very little work done. It should be budget priced. I'm getting the Collectors Edition delivered for €1 more and that has the physical game, Wolf Link amiibo and the soundtrack.

Terraria Wii U - HD Gameplay, Gamepad (HD Direct Capture)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTxc4L138yQ

This is a game I'm looking forward to. It's just there's been very little information to go on for the Wii U version.

And fair play to them, they're taking full advantage of the gamepad. Take note, Minecraft.

They're really putting a lot of effort in. This has gone from a probable buy to a definite buy. Hats off to them.

The 2 SNES games are a great pairing for €12.

They really are, two of the best games from the 16 bit generation, if not of all time!

Paired with Super Mario World from last Thursday, (and Earthbound if you like RPGs) and you've got one hell of a lot of great gaming!

Stupid New 3ds only. That's so annoying.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,295 ✭✭✭✭sligeach

I was going to ask about these SNES games being on the New 3DS, surely the regular 3DS could easily run them? Nintendo may say it can't but I think it's possibly a ploy to increase sales for the newer handheld. Especially seeing as they're not really bothered about making new games that take advantage of the extra grunt.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,548 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Yeah the general consensus is that it's to sell new hardware. The 'old' 3DS can run SNES games just fine. Interesting discussion here:

NintendoLife have a very interesting article on Nintendo's VC policies.

    http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/03/editorial_nintendos_virtual_console_revolution_must_wait_as_we_pay_once_more_for_snes_games

I completely agree with the author.

Let me guess...he's not happy about something?

    :D

Only messing. This SNES only on new 3DS is actually putting me off buying a new one, which i've been threatening to do for ages.

And I buy any old b*llocks Nintendo release. It's literally the one thing out of all the stuff I do with my income that I'll always shell out for regardless of price. Until now.

Why SNES VC games can only be played on new 3DS (short answer: CPU - if you believe them)

Don't believe that for second. They already released SMW and Yoshi's Island on the Gameboy Advance over a decade ago but the 3DS can't handle it? Not to mention folks playing Snes games on on their DS via an R4 card or whatever it was.

    It's a money grabbing exercise that's all.

Big difference - Virtual Console is emulated.

If the GBA was emulating the SNES version, it wouldn't have been playable at all.

A lot of SNES games didn't play well on DS either (via ROMs/SNES9X) - they weren't smooth, particularly where scrolling (and Mode 7 effects) were involved. Very prone to slowdown too.

The e-Reader levels are included in Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros. 3 on the European Wii U eShop. There had been some confusion over whether they made the cut.

    RIVE - Epic Conclusion Trailer

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQyPIHAOd98

The game will launch in September and unfortunately it will be Two Tribes last game before disbanding. Really sad news as they're one of my favourite indie developers. Their statement from their blog:

Fair point, emulation can be a hog I guess but I don't believe they couldn't run perfectly fine on the normal 3DS. Probably a moot point as even if they did, I wouldn't be paying €8 a game or whatever it was. I'll just stick to hooking up the Snes every now and then. :)

Just caved and got SMW, LTTP and Super Metroid and got change from €20.
For 3 games in my all time top 10 list, it was a good investment. Again. :o

Went as far as the Eastern Palace in Zelda and the Vanilla dome in Super Mario World.
For what it's worth, the emulation is perfect and scrolling is smooth.

Yep. It's nuts. I may pick up The Swindle. It's the only game left on that list of discounts that I'm interested in.

Love those DKC games, I think I'll grab the pair of them. Hopefully they release Dixie Kong's Double Trouble soon too.

Shantae is cheaper than I thought it would be too. I was expecting €15-€20.

Interesting to see if Chompy Chomp Chomp Party is any good when it comes out on the 31st.

Providing it's not expensive, I could see myself and the kids having a bit of fun with it. Up to 9 players locally, I still like local multiplayer though it know it's dying out.

Chompy Chomp etc looks overpriced, 5 or 6 euro looks about what I'd pay for what looks a pretty one note game, especially when FreezeMe starts off cheaper.

What stood out to me was the price of Metroid: Other M. €20 is insane. You can still buy it new in Argos for €6. Nintendo need a slap. I'll most likely buy the few Fire Emblem games I don't already own.

I haven't seen any big fanfare around it, but now that the My Nintendo Account thing is live, Flipnote Studios 3D is finally available to download. Everybody should get it, the original was one of my favourite Nintendo App/games ever.

I feel like I've been waiting for the sequel for ever, when did the original come out *goes to google release date*

Oh right, 7 years ago. Yeah that makes sense now.

SUPER METROID (SNES) (Teens React: Retro Gaming)

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfytJmm7Wd8

The greatest game of all time. For me, nothing will ever beat it. At the time it was just amazing and flawless in so many ways. Today it stands the test of time. Funniest quote from one of the girls at the save station, "is that a tanning bed?" And they're not used to difficulty or not being held by the hand.
I knew most if not all would die fighting the Chozo statue.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who didn't know you could morph ball past the chozo's legs without getting hurt
