I'd much rather they open up the Wii Virtual Console library to the Wii U. They just have it sitting there, a raft of great games which would be so cool to play on the Wii Pad, but the selection at the mo is paltry :(

in case you're planning on picking up an Ubisoft (an oobi.. or a yoobi?) title in the eShop sale at the last second, make sure you have enough space to install it or you can't purchase - Assassin's Creed III needs a whopping 21GB. (though it says 17gb once you get past the purchase point)

there are tables out there, such as this one : http://www.cubed3.com/news/17547/1/media-bionicle-maze-of-shadows.html

Also, if you decide to use a USB key as a lifeboat for you demos and VC titles to make room for an install, take it out before you hit the eShop - it defaults to USB storage for installation and seems to ignore built-in space when evaluating installability.

Making Nintendo mistakes so you don't have to since 1996

Quick addition to your post Banjo:

Better to NOT use a USB key/pen/stick/whatever-you-may-call-them, and use a full external hard disk. The USB keys are flash memory, and as such, tend to essentially have a finite number of read/write actions on them, using them to store/play from is a bad idea, as it'll burn the key out much faster than you'd expect.

I said Lifeboat! I had to frantically dump as many games as I could on to the USB key (8GB, but Monster Hunter, at a shade under 7GB, refused to go) so I could complete the transaction on ACIII- I intend to free up a hard drive for ACIII and put all the games from the key back on to the system memory. I should point out, the eShop says this offer is good till the 7th, but I had it in my head that it expired on the 4th, which is why I was panic-deleting.

Begs the question - what magical solid state storage have they put inside the WiiU that doesn't burn out like billy-o if you're playing games off of it?

Where'd you pull normal retail price for AC3 as 69.99?
Its 18.29 delivered from Zavvi and you can sell it on when you're done.

So I heard that all games purchased on the original Wii were tied to the console itself.

So with the usernames etc on Wii U I assume it's linked to your username like the 360 or ps3 am I right?

I just dont want to buy games that I know are tied to the console incase for some reason the Wii U does fail.

Would like to know I can bring forward my games to the next machine.

Stuff on the Wii can be transferred to the Wii U.
Purchases are still tied to the hardware, but it looks like it's heading in the right direction now with the NNID.

ok so if I download something lets say Street Fighter 2 for arguements sake I should be able to transfer it in theory anyway to the next Nintendo console.

Thats what I assume when I looked at the Nintendo Network thing, seemed to be the same as PS plus membership to me.

If you'd downloaded it on the Wii, sure you can transfer it to the Wii U. This is a one-off thing though, wipes the source Wii.

There are of course no guarantees as to how Nintendo will handle Wii U to the next console!

Sorry I dont want to come across stupid here but it was only to do with new downloads.

ie I have no wii downloads from previous systems.

I am considering downloading games likes of nes or snes titles on the wii u but dont like the idea unless they're attached to a username/account as apposed to a system.

Anyway I've only got the machine yesterday so will look into it more probably this weekend when I manage to stop play Rayman for 5 mins.

thanks for the help though Damo. :)

They haven't said content will transfer forward, but Wii Shop purchases transferred to WiiU, and DSi Shop purchases to 3DS. So if the next Nintendo console happens to be backwards compatible (Nintendo actually seem pretty good in this regard) I'd say they'll transfer. Enjoy the new console anyway! :)

Do Nintendo tend to do 3DS eShop sales at or after Christmas? I'm getting a 3DS for Christmas with Zelda and the free Super Mario Land 3D, but there are some others games that I have played before, like Super Mario Bros. 2 that I wouldn't mind getting again, but that I'm not willing to pay full whack for!

you'd likely pick it up cheaper on physical format 2nd hand.

Eshop does not have a great record with regard to sales except on third party titles (and even that is a recent development) . There's no traditional deep discount seasonal sale. This isn't steam!

Ubisoft may drop some prices, and the eshop exclusive indies might shed a few quid but I doubt you'll find a Mario or Zelda game for less than RRP.

Just downloaded the Ace Attorney demo there and am wondering if there are any real good value demos. In particular something like Bravely Default or Monster Hunter

The demos are free! Do you want them to pay you for playing them?

I've found all the eShop demos to be short and lacking context. Mh3 is a particularly bad one, in that it exemplifies all that is bad in the game while studiously avoiding the good. Fire Emblem is decent and Harmoknight was big enough by comparison but there's no demo that gives you so much gameplay you'd use up all your 10 or 15 limited goes.

No just want something to play in between Zelda & am a bit skint. Want to try Monster Hunter but you & others said the demo is a poor reflection of the game. Might try Etrian Odyssey and Sonic Lost Worlds a go

Contra 3: The Alien Wars on eShop now.

One of the first games I thought of when Nintendo announced the Virtual Console. Classic game.

Your account is currently hardware tied, but if you have both 3dses and an Internet connection you can transfer the account from one to another
