It's a clever idea in theory but the amount of trial and error involved killed it for me. I had horrible frame rate issues in places on the Switch too.

Nothing jumps out at me in the sale, but I did notice that The Messenger has a conditional discount if you own Enter the Gungeon, Minit, Crossing Souls or Not a Hero: Super Snazzy Edition (€16.99 instead of €19.99). Should take it down to between €12 and €13 on the South African store.

Nintendo also have their own separate sale this week. Just in time for the online service, they have a "Play Online" sale, with good discounts for online multiplayer games like Splatoon 2, 20XX, Arms, Doom, Mario Kart, Rocket League and a few others. FIFA 18 is down to €14.79 which is the cheapest I've seen it.

The biggest thing I noticed this week is that they've dropped the Wii U from their PR. I had a suspicion that it would coincide with the launch of Switch Online Service.

Edit: Sorry, Nintendo haven't dropped the Wii U just yet, it's just some sites aren't reporting on it. To be honest, when you see what was omitted, you can see why.

In regards to buying games off the US store, it almost seems pointless if it's a game at $20 or lower, because they add tax to your purchase as well, making the discount in € slightly redundant. I was looking to get that Capcom Beat 'em Up bundle for $19.99 (which works out to €16.99 when converted) and they added nearly $2 tax to the checkout, making the price almost $22, bringing the price up to just under €19.

Am I missing something? Or is this just the way it is?

As far as I know, yes. They must align the tax value from a single state (probably wherever Nintendo's US HQ is) as prices can fluctuate wherever you are. It's funny as the US has consistently lower adult numeracy scores than most of the rest of the world. You'd think they'd all be very smart with the calculations that go into buying the most ordinary things*


*my experience with US sales tax is limited to spending time in New York and New Jersey where they have the untaxed price on the shelf and the tax is added at the till forcing a quick bit of maths to make sure you have enough money.

Sales tax depends on the State you are in. Some States pay more sales tax than others, and some pay no sales tax at all.

If you set your zipcode to 33166 on your USA account, I don't think you have to pay sales tax. It's somewhere in Florida I think.

Sounds like a pain.

I've always been told buying things from foreign digital stores always ends up being the cheaper option, but in all my years having access to these stores I've never experienced the conversion, because both PSN and - now realising - the Nintendo eShop, don't accept PayPal for foreign accounts, so I'm forced to buy the gift cards which end up being the exact same price in €.

The only reason I get foreign PSN stuff is for the PS2 section, where they're all 50hz in Europe (stupidly).

Thankfully, Play-Asia were selling digital $20 eShop vouchers for a lower price of €17 (was €19) so I just got that.

All of this hassle to save €2 - €3, I'm definitely showing my Scottish-ness :pac::pac:
