Another "what'll I do?" thread!

Morning folks.
Just read Techguy's thread about teaching himself programming, and decided to start my own thread so as not to step on anyone's toes.

Anyways, I've a small bit of background in programming...Pascal when in college 12 years ago :eek: , small bit of C and C++ in the current evening course I'm doing.
I've been looking into doing an online course in the most current/futureproof/open-the-most-doors-for-me language.
I was looking at the FÁS site, and these are the courses they're running...

C# - 40-143 401
C++ programming 40101
JAVA 2 ENTERPRISE CONNECTIVITY 40115
JAVA 2 PROGRAMMING 1.4 401
JAVA SCRIPT FUNDAMENTALS - ECOLLEGE 40116
Microsoft .NET Overview - 50-127 127
Overview of ASP.net 501
VB.NET DISTRIBUTED APPLICATIONS - 50-139 501
VB.NET WEB BASED DEVELOPMENT - 40-129 40129
VB.NET WINDOWS DEVELOPMENT - 40-136 401

Maybe FÁS is the wrong place for an online course? Is there somewhere better?

Reading the other thread, people suggested Java and C#. Do people suggest the same here?

Those links aren't working for me but I'd say either do:

JAVA 2 PROGRAMMING 1.4 401

or

C# - 40-143 401.

So Java or C#, yeah? Any point in looking into the Microsoft Certified .net overview?

Edit: Just found this FÁS Courses. Click on Programming to see the options. Might give people a better understanding of what each course offers.

Java and C# are somewhat similar so there may not be a huge difference between the two courses and what you may get out of them - at the moment Java would be more popular. Pity it's only 1.4 as 1.5 had some nice additions.
