    Hi,
Some users here had problems with vantasks.ie before in that it wasn't how I wanted it to appear on their browsers. A few things have been updated and I think it should be ok now. I'd appreciate if anyone could compare the following pictures to how it looks in your browser and let me know if it's the same please:)

    pretty much ? ... (firefox 2.x)

not spending too much time looking thats your job and you should have a test suite for that ...

What I do have to say is ... your pricing and quotes form is OUCH!!! what on earth were you thinking ...

Is it just me or are there way too many entries there ?

The forms don't really align in any order ...
The items aren't listed alphabetically ... and so on ...

    rethink it

*drops his two donuts on the matter*

yeah, that page isn't finished, just wanted to get the content up and will sort it later into different categories. The contents are going by where you would find them in a house, not alphabetically, you'll see all the kitchen items are listed together etc.

There were two posters here before who said the layout was different on their machines, kbannon and another guy too so if you two are around, please let me know if it's changed for you:)

BTW .... wasn't being smart about the test suite thing ...

Get yourself a copy of VMWare .. and install the various IE versions .. they can be installed together ... as standalone apps ...

    http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/32bit/standalone

If you're running Firefox most of the time .. install IE Tabs ... I've not used it that much but it feels handy enough I've also not tested it properly to make sure if its displaying stuff as IE ...

    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1419/

IE is just a right click away ... within firefox ..

    Thanks for the links:)

I have the IE tab installed on FF and IE itself from before I got FF and it looks fine on both:)

Looks okay. IIRC the the "Specialists in" list wasn't aligned when I increased text size - it's right now.

Unfortunately "conditions" of "terms and conditions" wraps onto the next line.
The "Useful Links" link also wraps onto the next line (right under "Pricing and Quotes").
For accessibility, I'm not a fan of text in images e.g. in the three checkboxes on the top right (e.g. "International Service").

Thanks for pointing all that out, damn, I thought it was ok. I wonder why it's not on yours?

Not sure what you mean about the top right check boxes and accessibility, what would you suggest instead?

Change them to text. I now see that those checkboxes are a background image (header.gif). If not text, the ALT text could list the text in the images.

FYI: My screenshot shows the wrapping items when I increased the text one size. Not a big deal, just an FYI.

Sorry, I'm not too sure what ALT text is:o Is it to do with SEO?

So the menus and links only distort when you increase your default text size view, do you usually have it larger than default or were you just checking?

I'll have to ask my designer is there a way around that:confused:

The ALT attribute on an image provides a textual description for images

    <img src="whatever.jpg" alt="description of the image" />

While this was primarily designed for accessible websites, or for when someone has images disabled (previously useful on slow dial-up connections, now a factor because of per-Kb charges on mobile access), it is also used by search engines which, for obvious reasons, can't figure out what the visual content of the image is.

So a page with, say, just a single image and no text can avail of this to let Google et al know what a visitor can expect to see if they visit that page.

Ok so the ALT text in the image will be just as good so? :)

daymobrew, did you intentionally increase your font size to see how it would look on my site or is that the size you usually have it? If it is the size you usually have it at, does that not pose problems on a lot of sites? I put mine to the same size you must have had it at, and a lot of sites are distorted with it that size:confused:

What can be done for that without stretching the whole site, which would then make it incompatible for a lot of resolutions. Seems you can't solve problem a without creating problem b:(

In an ideal world any site would be able to increase font size ...

Its not an ideal world ... though .. and designing with graphics means you're slightly limited in the scalability of websites.

It'll become more of an issue in future I think there are already a number of court cases in the US ... for discrimination ...

and am I completely wrong thinking the L'Oreal site came under fire a few years ago for using a completely flash site ? [Tried finding a link and I couldn't]

But even our own government website www.gov.ie has a large number of graphics which won't scale up nicely so a visually impaired person will no doubt have problems with them. They do however offer a wap site which I presume won't have graphic links ... no way of checking at the moment

The re-design is much better on my laptop - everything fits with no apparent issues.
    A few other things though:
    http://www.vantasks.ie/index.php?page_id=8
    left align these:
Dublin based collection and delivery: €50.00
Dublin based small house move: €100.00
Dublin - Waterford small house move: €200.00

    http://www.vantasks.ie/index.php?page_id=13
IIRC Airtricity only supply business customers
Airtricity.com - Providers of renewable energy to homes in Ireland.

    http://www.vantasks.ie/index.php?page_id=3
    Maybe provide a feedback form?

That's great to know it's ok for you now:)

Yeah, I wasn't sure if centre aligning them was a good idea, just messing about on it now.

I recently just heard of Airtricity and apparantly they used to only supply business but now do residential too: http://www.airtricity.com/ireland/switch_to_airtricity/residential_enquiries/ :)

Will be adding a feedback form and the quote forms laid out in individual pages and then it should be finito:)

    Thanks for the feedback everyone!
