Sometimes the problem goes away for a few nights, but by God its there 75% of the time. It poses quite a problem when i need 20-30ms to UK CS1.6 servers. Thats a "game" for anyone that doesnt know.

And yes, I can and do get 20-30ms to these servers on a regular basis - just not when I need it most.

The problem must be at the exchange. What can be done to rectify this?

(I am on BT 3mb and my upload is 378k)

Thanks for explaining that to us on the Broadband forum :D As for your latency I guess you don't have any other computers downloading on the same network and there are no programs in the background on your PC - even hidden ones like trojans or spyware etc? If that's not the cause I wonder if this happens as soon as you start playing or only at certain times during the day?

It has nothing to do with any program on my computer. virus or other. It happens at "peak times". but it happens incredibly suddenly which could imply something instant is going on if you know what im talking about.

Just sounds like contention to me. You don't have much recourse unless you can prove that its seriously effecting everyone on your exchange, then Eircom might admit theres a problem or the exchange needs to be upgraded. But it won't be an easy task see Here.

Btw dylanpp as for your internet exploder issues I suggest you grab Firefox and use that instead I have no problems with it on Boards. Since your IE is so messed up I wouldn't be so sure that there are no malware programs on your PC.

What time of day did you do that traceroute?

    Here's mine from just now:

    able.

I tried it a few times and each hop can vary from about 60 to 180ms.

I don't think I've ever got 20-30ms while playing games - maybe 40 if I'm lucky. However I've never got any particularly bad pings either, unless I'm playing some gammy US server :)

Use jolt.co.uk please that's the more common gamer ping server and it's in the UK too :)

    OfflerCrocGod, where are you located?

Is the first hop really the exchange? That would have to mean dylanpp is in Limerick (Roches St. exchange) too if it is.
