I hope you can help me; I just want to know that if you are self employed what expense’s can and can’t you claim for.

Firstly, if you pay your self the civil service mileage rate for work mileage travelled, can you still claim for the following, Car tax costs, Insurance costs, repairs and servicing and petrol costs, and if so is there and apportionment rate between work and personal, someone told me it was 4/5 to work and 1/5, but I just wanted to make sure.

Secondly, are there any apportionment rates or rules of thumb for Mobile phone bills, ESB and Broadband Bills if you also work from home from time to time.

Finally what sort of expense are not allowable, is there a distinction between refurbishing an office and general repairs and upgrades,

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

    Thanking you in advance Eoin
