Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Inspiron 1300 fault

Hi, I bought a Dell Inspiron 1300 last September for a relation and I got a call today to say the machine is acting up. Basically, they were browsing at the time and the machine froze completely. After a reboot it displays the BIOS splash screen and then sits there with a flashing cursor in the top left corner on a blank screen. My initial thoughts are hard drive failure, but the machine won't even enter the BIOS (same behaviour, blank screen flashing cursor) Anybody any ideas as to what it could be?
The other problem is I purchased the cheapo 90-day collect and return warranty which has now expired. I was wondering is there any form of warranty remaining on the components?
    Thanks...

sounds like the hard drive's firmware has hung , just turn it off for about 20mins with the battery out. should be fine, but the disks might have gotten damaged if they were reading or writing when it happend

this will cause bios to hang as it can detect the drive but can't handshake with its firmware

i'm one post short of a thousand

See if you can boot into Linux with a Live boot disk.

@mukki I'd never have thought of that - thanks!, I'll get them to give it a go (laptop is 60 miles away so it's a phone job)
@tom dunne good suggestion also, I have a copy of Ubuntu lying around somewhere. Thanks for the help guys I'll let you know how I get on.
