perhaps nobody has answered because if you bothered to get the form you're talking about and bothered to read it, the answer would be obvious ;)

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

In fairness to the OP, it's not as simple as that. When he was 16 years old he/she applied for a provisional licence in the only three categories he was eligible to at that time, M,W and A1. Now that he has turned 17, he wants to add category B to that existing provisional. He wishes to know if he can simply go into a Motor Tax office and get B added or will he have to fill out another application. They should already have his details from the issuing of the other three categories and the licence is still in date.

ninja900 - AFAIK there is nothing in the provisional application form notes about what to do in this situation. How is it obvious?

    NiSmO - telephone them.

If you need a new licence, a renewal, or need to make a change to your licence you use the (same) application form. Seems obvious enough to me. Don't they have full instructions on the form? They used to.

Adding a category to a licence is not the same as renewing it. The licence hasn't expired. For example, if a driver passes a test in an additional category, they go to the Tax office with their existing licence and their Certificate of Competency from the latest test. A new category is simply added to the existing licence.

There is nothing on the form to instruct one as what to do in the OPs situation.

Supposing you have a full licence in category B. You wish to drive a truck so you apply and get a provisional for category C which is valid for 2 years. After a month, you decide that you also wish to get a provisional licence for a bus. You need to get category D added to you existing valid provisional licence. What happens next? The OP is in a similiar situation.
