OceanFree POP3 Problem

I am unable to receive my oceanfree mails through OE.
I am using Esat BB connection.
This was working fine until some weeks ago.
SMTP server(SMTP.oceanfree.net) is working fine, ie I can send mails using the same Oceanfree account through OE without any problems.
I can use Oceanfree web mail without issues also.
The error I receive is on attempting to log in to POP3(Mail.oceanfree.net) server through OE is:

"There was a problem logging onto your mail server. Your Password was rejected. Account: 'Mail.OceanFree.Net', Server: 'Mail.oceanfree.net', Protocol: POP3, Server Response: '-ERR Re-Authentication Failure', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC92"

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Well the error message suggests that your password is not correct?
Did you change it?

Did you change to broadband recently? Or did the way you connect to the mailserver change recently? AFAIK, you have to connect with the ISP's connection, else the mail server will refuse you (so you can't POP EsatBT if you are connecting thru Eircom for instance, because you are not logged on to the ISP's domain).

Did you change to broadband recently? Or did the way you connect to the mailserver change recently? I switched to EsatBB about 18 months ago.
I have been using my oceanfree accounts in OE with no probleml til just a few weeks ago.
I have tried changing my password since this problem occurred and the problem remains the same. I have absolutely no problem with webmail. Sending and receiving.
I had this problem with the original Zyxel modem and I still have it using the Netopia modem/router. So I don't think the router is the issue.
I have tried this on several machines with the same result.

In your incoming mail server config in OE do you have 'Log on using Secure Password Authentication' ticked? Untick it if you do.

Nah not ticked on.

That Secure(SSL) bit can come up in the error message like that when that option is ticked. Try removing the settings and setting up the account again, make sure the account name is the first part of your email address (i.e. don't put @oceanfree.net in) etc.
More than likely a problem with OE otherwise, if you can check it via their webmail then the account itself is obviously working.

Did you try pop.oceanfree.net instead of mail.oceanfree.net? They resolve to different servers, mightn't mean anything though.

I have tried several servers including pop.oceanfree.net, thanks anyway.
I have set up and reset up this account several times.
I also have a couple of other oceanfree accounts and it's ditto for them.

Can you check the network/firewalls between you and mail.oceanfree.net.

Start / run /cmd
telnet mail.oceanfree.net 110
user yourusername
pass yourpassword
uidl
quit

Worked here for an oceanfree account.
Lists the last 10 mail UIDLs of your account.

Unable to log on using this method with several accounts.

-Err Re-Authentication failure.

Firewalls down for this test.

Well, it's time to contact Oceanfree now.
It really looks as if your password has changed or is no longer valid.

Well, that would be BT these days. Oceanfree haven't existed for many moons - I'm surprised their email accounts still work at all.

No problem whatsoever logging on via web, just a PITB having to log on and manually manage my mails!!!
