    Lads,

I was wondering where best to buy filters for servicing the motor ('02 320d) - oil, air, fuel, pollen filters?
Joe Duffy's was a bit steep the last time I bought them there.

    Cheers

Pretty much any motor factors should have them. I get nearly of of my stuff for servicing the car from East Coast Motors in Greenhills, Tallaght. Ph. 01-4521646. I find them to be quite good.

I recently read that many non-OEM filters contain about 1/3 of the paper compared to OEM filters

When I had the 'pleasure' of working at MDL one of the guys took apart a spurious filter and an OEM filter for a golf (MkII). A lot, lot less filter material in the spurious. The strange thing is that the spurious filter was a Mann filter. Mann are part of VWs commercial division:eek:

If quality is your #1 concern: any main dealer
If price is your #1 concern: any motor factors

Except oil. Good oils can be had at motor factors in 5L cans, instead of 1L bottles from the main dealer.

Indeed. OEM filters are cheap as chips anyway.

Will main dealers sell you the filters over the counter? i.e. they wont say..you have to get them fitted by us too...?

Main dealers will sell most stock over the counter.
Get your part numbers on www.realoem.com/bmw/select.do - just enter the last 7 digits of your chassis number and bob's your mothers brother!

So the aftermarket OEM filters like Mann and Hengst aren't as good as the ones you buy in the BMW dealer?

Never used them myself, but you could try Otto who are a specialist german car motor factors. They're located behind the Ford garage on the Airton Rd in Tallaght.

For the sake of a few quid, I think I'll buy them at the main dealer again.

Anyone know how often you need to change a diesel fuel filter?
    If I don't need to change it, I won't.
