Heating water tank

Just wondering what i did wrong: Last night I set the timer on the water tank to heat from 11pm to 8am. No hot water this morning :-( I checked the fuse box and the night electrictiy dial was set to 0. The options are -4, -2, 0, 2, 4 What should this be set to? Is this why i had no hot water? Thanks
