A neighbour is building on their land at the moment.

For the last 2 days they have had a JCB (proper one not the mini ones) going since 7am.

Is this allowed to start at 7 or is it suppose to be 8??

Should I ring the council about it??

Ask the foreman what time does he usualy start the site at.
7:30-8am is usally the start time in the construction trade.

Some contractors like to start early, leave early.

The Organisation of Working Time Act should give you a clue

It's actually an 8AM start for heavy machinery

Personally, don't ring the council!! they can't do a whole lot about it

if it's your next door neighbour you're asking for years of trouble ahead and it's not worth it, these things start small and get blown out of all proportion:(

If it's the JCB only (not rock breaking) it should be finished in a few days

Grind your teeth and smile is the best option

When i was doing my finished floors ground/upstairs I had to powerfloat my gaff at 2am in the morning with the whole place lit up with halogens!!:D

the neighbours were very understanding and wouldn't accept any bottles from me!!!

    Great to have understanding neighbours:D

sure, the sooner they can start the quicker they will get the work done and have the machinery gone again!

    Yeah,

Id agree with most of the above posts. Just grin and bear it for a couple of weeks. If you start to stir it up now it could result in years of agro between you and yer neighbours. Give them a break, they probably have enough on their plate at the moment! (speaking from experience here ;->)
