    Hi,

We should be building a new house within the next 6 months if all goes to plan. I’m wondering about the wooden salts that I have seen on the exterior of houses. Is this option cheaper than going down the stone route? We would only be looking at using it on a section of the front of the house. Also what is the actual name for these slats?

You would need to contact your planning office directly about it as this feature, while generally frowned upon by a lot of planners, would be or could be permitted in different areas within the same county while it could be banned completely in another area of the county or the adjoining county.

Talk to your architect/agent or the planner about it.

Best timber for exterior wooden cladding is Western Red Cedar - known as the 'hardest softwood'!

Also Douglas Fir can be used - can get from Coillte
