Have a compaq n200 laptop. till now never had any problem. battery isnt the best (waiting delivery of a new battery).

for some reason today, it would randomly either screen go dark ( backlight gone type) or go immediately to sleep.

starting/restarting/coming out of standby and itll work again.

there is no fixed time limit for it to do it.

it did it a few times then went fine for about 3 hours (After which time i was done using it).

it was on ac all the time with the battery charging the first few times, it went to standby once when battery fully charged and on ac.

its not that i left it idle, i was either using word or listening to music and using internet explorer 7.

    running windows xp pro.

    is the backlight going?

it comes back no problem each time i start again...

    thanks for any info?
i might also think of selling it. its in perfect nick with a new battery coming in (those are terribly rare and terribly expensive!)

This is actually a feature, well at least on my one it is.

I have an FSC AMILO 1848u and this happens if I haven't been typing for a few minutes ( on battery power ), on the FSC I press the "Fn" key and it comes back up to full brightness.

Also if the battery is running low, it does the same thing.

    Hope this helps
