Black Floor Tiles - Cannot keep Clean

New house and we decided to put down black floor tiles in the hallway.

    Bad idea!

Cannot keep them clean. Every bit of dirt, dust shows up on them as opposed to the Cream Floor tiles in the kitchen (same tile different colour) which do not need to be cleaned half as often.

Does anyone know if these tiles can be varnished or given some other treatment to make them less susceptible to picking up dirt.

Wouldnt mind so much but actually have to clean with water and mop every few days....

Are they natural slate tiles or ceramic tiles?
Have they a matt or a gloss/shiny finish?

If they are natural slate or whatever, were the tiles selaed with an impregnator ( a varnish like prouct for tiles) after laying? If not, then mopping and sweeping doesn't help; once the floor dries in you can see the greyness come out in them and any small bits of dirt and lint show up on them.
An impregnator sealant will help to an extent (if it hasn't already been done) but it could be as much to do with the darkness of the floor's colour in a brightly lit area.
If they're ceramic and have a glossy finish then there's not too much you can really do AFAIK...
