    I have a second hand car with the Vehicle Licensing Cert transfered to my name and address, however, I have the Vehicle Registration Cert still in the name of the previous owner.

    Do I need to transfer the Registration Cert into my name?

    I get the motor tax renewal sent to me each year so does that mean the Registration is in my name but I just have an old piece of paper with the previous owners name?

    Is my insurance at risk possibly void as the Registration Cert is not in my name?

    Or are these the one and the same form i.e. Licensing Cert has replaced the Registration Cert?

    Help!!!! :rolleyes: :rolleyes:

    Confused :confused::confused:

    """"From 31st May, 2004, a new Vehicle Registration Certificate (VRC) has come into use.

    The VRC will be issued by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, (DoEHLG). It replaces the registration certificate currently issued by the Revenue Commissioners and the licensing certificate currently issued by DoEHLG.

    The new VRC will be used throughout the EU for identification of the vehicle in international traffic and for its re-registration in another member state.

    The VRC will be issued by DoEHLG after the vehicle is first licensed for use on the public road (road taxed)."""""

    confused -you're not the only one...........it's why they've now changed the system.

    The licencing cert is the only important one - fill it in for address changes/changes of ownership etc - the blue Registration Cert you can just hand to the new owner............it actually has no function. Mindless bureaucracy gone mad........

    “And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

    Once you have the VLC then you've nothing to worry about. The VLC is used to transfer ownership.

    thanks for the responses

    I had been doing a spring clean, found both documents, and was afraid I'd forgotton to do something when changing ownership
