then i got disconnected (of course) and when i came back online, it looked more like this...

with pings of ~28 which is a marked improvement from the 60's i used to get. i saw that others have noticed the same goings on so i thought id start this thread as a record of NTL's activity. does anyone know what NTL's plans are for the future? they're obviously doing work on the lines but whats the final outcome to be?

Well it seems as if they are testing out new routes but they are still going back to Amsterdam routing - hopefully soon they will have it all sorted. 16ms is damn nice!

How do you do the trace route?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 140 ✭✭dathiultaigh

go to your DOS prompt and type in the command :

    tracert /?

this will show a brief explanation of the command usage and the switches you use with it.

for you to check this yourself enter in the tracert command followed by the destination IP/DNS address of the node you want to trace to. Try the last example shown by nag :

    tracert darwin.unreal.ie

basically you will max/min/avg latency response times for each hop to each node.

enter in the ip address or DNS address at the end of the command to whatever you want.

Yep John, mine is the same. It's kinda on and off, one minute it's flying along and then suddenly it's slower than dial up, going to give them a ring today about it, Mine's been like this for well over a week now.

I wish they'd route it back. Every week it seems more and more sites are inaccessible.
