Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Hi, would anyone have any information about being a solicitor employed by the defence forces in Ireland ? Its always something I've been interested in, and as I'll be qualifying as a solicitor in the not too distant future, just wondering if anyone had any experience of this ?
    Thanks for any info

Hey probably a bit late but... there is def an "Army Legal Services Club", more of a dining society! It is large enough, a lot of people in the DF have a legal qualification but dont practice. Lots of brass but a good mix from all ranks.

The key legal posts in the Army are held by officers with a legal background (not sure if they have to go to cadet school) such as the Judge Advocat General. A lot of offences that go to courts martial are minor and the way the system in the army works is that you can have a fellow soldier represent you or a civvie i.e. solicitor. Depending on the nature of the offence, those accused usually pick a colleague, AFAIK. If you wish to go in as a solicitor the army run a "Direct Entry" scheme for civvies such as doctors, engineers etc. so i presume it is the same for legal quals. However, they only recruit as and when a certain skill is needed. I for one have never seen an add for a solicitor.

Hope this helps, I for one would be interested to know what you find out. I would suggest you take out the phonebook at the Defence Forces page, first ring the Competitions section to see what they know. Then, start picking numbers from the page (no seriously!) alot of people wont have a notion what you're on about but keep trying. I know the club is based in McKee Barracks so try the phone numbers there.
