Im headed over to this as well. Flying tomorrow, back monday. Couldnt afford front row, but will be row 3 for both nights. This weekend is going to be amazing, if for no other reason - The Briscoes have 2 matches. Add the fact that its Joes last weekend, and we are on for a cracker. Not to mention comedy match of the century between Cabana and Delirious.

Strong Vs PAC, Rave Vs McGuinness and Delirious Vs Sydal are three great matches potentially also.

Back to lurk mode for me! ;)

    any word on Joe's match?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

    Full results:

Homicide (w/ Julius Smokes) beat Davey Richards

Sara Del Ray beat Allison Danger

Jimmy Rave & Jimmy Jacobs beat Colt Cabana & BJ Whitmer

Matt Sydal beat Delirious 2 falls to 1 in their Best-of-Three falls contest

FIP Heavyweight Champion, Roderick Strong beat PAC

Shingo & Naruki Doi beat The Briscoes to capture the ROH World Tag Team titles

    Samoa Joe beat Nigel McGuinness

Joe did two Muscle Busters, one to the outside of the ring, sounded like a very good match. Reading some of the reports on the ROH forums, it sounds like Joe really put Nigel over, even though he beat him. Very emotional apparently, although my mate didn't agree, saying that it's Joe's last match tomorrow

Strong and PAC had a very good match too from what I've read. PAC has been on a few IWW shows, though I've yet to see him live

The Briscoes are facing off against each other tonight, but I'm certain it'll just be a one night deal. It was gas reading everyone's predictions on how long the Briscoes would keep the titles on the ROH forums! The shortest reign predicted was 9 months, most people saying at least over a year. I felt the same, it really was a swerve they threw out last night. The angle for 2007 could be the American guys trying to get their titles back from the Japanese

I was just talking to a guy I know from Wales who was at the show, he went out drinkin afterwards and was talkin to Joe, Nigel, Strong, Sydal, the Briscoes and Delirious. Him and his mates challenged Joe and Nigel to a drinkin contest, but they backed down, haha. I suppose they've got work to do tonight. One of them asked Delirious how come he was talkin normal, he said he took his medication. Sounded like a lot of people had a great time at the show

Well my 100th post may as well be a long one...

What a weekend! I really didn't think this doubleshot would be on par with the UK shows last year, but they really blew them out of the water. I haven't been to sleep yet, I'm still buzzing from the show last night, it's gotta be an early contender for show of the year. incredible stuff.

The first show started with Davey and Homicide. I'm really glad this was booked first. It wasn't a tremendous match but was good to get the crowd going. Davey was over big time as a heel, as part of the No Remorse Corps with Roddy Strong. He was getting the "Flan-ders" (well "Da-vey"!!) chant and he played up to the crowd well. Homicide was just Homicide, always going to go down well. Julius Smokes at ringside is so good, I don't know how his voice held out with the amount of shouting he was doing. The match was OK but Homicide was always going to win, and was always going to give him the Cop Killa to finish. It was pretty sweet seeing that move live.

The Shimmer match was ok, Danger is still learning the ropes but del Ray is terrific, she has the look and the ability and I can see her signing a developmental WWE contract before too long. Del Ray won the match but her and Danger were later challenged to a tag match for the following night by Britain's top females, Jetta (as in the car I suppose) and Eden Black.

The Jimmy's vs Colt and BJ was average, a little bit short and not violent enough for my liking. The crowd loved Colt once again, but they weren't really into the match as a whole. Jacobs picked up the victory after a top rope Contra Code on BJ.

Next was Sydal and Delirious 2/3 Falls. Delirious was as much fun as I thought he would be and he and Sydal have great chemistry together. Sydal was playing the role of cocky heel and cheated his way to victory.

After intermission the show went full throttle and never never eased up for the remainder. Strong and Pac had an excellent match. This was the first time I had seen Pac but he lived up to the hype. Roddy dominated for the opening, but when the match spilled to the outside Pac shone. He hit a ridiculous twisting Shooting Star Press off the top to the outside, over the guardrails and hit some other thing I couldn't even begin to describe. Roddy got it back in the ring and eventually got the win with the Gibson Driver to retain the now World FIP title.

I still can't believe this happened, but the Briscoe's dropped the titles after a week, just like what happened to them in NOAH. This match was easily as good, if not better than the Briscoe's outings in England the last time, and considering they stole the weekend the last time, that's saying something. Doi and SHINGO are awesome together and it's going to be fascinating to see what happens now leading up to the Japan shows. The really good thing about this is it means Doi will be around more often. The Briscoe's then agreed to fight each other the following night. So much for the European tag team, but no one wanted to see Storm and Fleisch!!

Onto the main event. The place nearly erupted for Nigel's entrance, but once the Godzilla intro hit the noise was deafening. These two guys had a really hard hitting match as you would expect. Joe hit a Muscle Buster off the apron to the outside, and I'm not exaggerating when I say I thought Nigel was dead after it (OK, maybe just slight hyperbole ;)). Nigel had to be escorted to the back until Joe called him back and demanded he fight on. Nigel did and they exchanged blow after blow until Joe picked up the win with another Muscle Buster. Joe gave a great speech after saying he is leaving the company in good hands, completely putting Nigel over.

Fozzy, I was chatting to them Welsh guys in the Grafton (£15 in, free drinks all night!!!) after, cool guys! It was great meeting Joe and Cide but they didn't hang around too long. The Briscoe's, Pac, Sydal, Roddy and a few others stayed til closing time. Pac and Sydal are both really cool guys, Pac is only 20 too  I also got to meet Gregh from the ROH boards, the man is somewhat of a legend and held a party on the Friday for 20 or so people and picked up the tab. He's offered to put a few of us up for next years WrestleMania weekend in Florida. I'm going to start saving now!

Night two opened with the best comedy match I've ever seen between Colt and Delirious. Colt did Delirious' routine when the bell rang, which scared Delirious. "gjoirhjeahjteihjpthatsmygimmickdsafjroihte" he said! Pure comedy gold. Delirious picked up the win with a roll up.

The women's tag match was good, and I was glad to hear a USA chant going. Del Ray picked up the win with a Teddy Hart-esque cradle DDT.

BJ and Jacobs then came out of nowhere and had a really incredible brawl. Jacobs dived off the balcony and they most of the match in the middle of the crowd. It really got the adrenaline flowing. BJ got busted open and Jacobs, the sick ****, smeared the blood all over himself. BJ eventually won with a Brain Buster on the ramp.

Pac and Sydal was great. They chain wrestled for much of the start and their quickness was remarkable. Then they took to the air. Pac hit a phoenix splash off the second rope, it was crazy! Sydal won though with the Sydal Press.

Mark vs Jay was a technical masterpiece. It was tough because their was no face or heel but the boys really pulled out all the stops. Their chemistry together is amazing and they, once again, stole the show.

SHINGO and Doi vs the NRC was brilliant too. Davey and Roddy are great together. They hit a sweet powerbomb into a Backcracker combo which looked so painful. I kinda knew the Dragon Gate guys would win but the NRC had so many near falls that I began to question it. Doi won it with a facebuster off the top. The tag champs are looking really good!

Rave and Nigel was tremendous. Nigel was carrying a groin injury and really was barely able to walk, but he still pulled out the kin of performance that has me convinced he will be the next ROH champ. Rave took some beating including two BIG spots on the guardrail. Nigel won with a lariat much to the delight of the crowd. Rave though got a great reception after, I doubt he ever thought he would get a "Thank you Jimmy" chant but he did and I'm glad for him, he always puts in a great effort but never gets the credit for it.

Joe got the streamer treatment as he came out and in the opening minute he was clearly very emotional (at least he didn't blubber like a little girl like Punk did :p ). Once Smokes started heckling him however, he picked up his game and he and Cide had a great match, a brilliant way to end a brilliant tenure with the company. Joe won with a Muscle Buster off the second rope. He gave a real classy speech after the match and I can safely say that everyone else in the building was as hoarse as I was after chanting JOE JOE JOE. A great end to another great weekend of wrestling.

It's the end of an era, but the beginning of so much more for the company that no one thought would last. ROH is moving in a very ambitious direction and it will go from strength to strength in the future. They have the WrestleMania triple shot coming up soon which features another Dragon Gate 6 Man, then the big shows over in Japan and all I can say is fair play and good luck to Gabe, Cary and everyone involved.

I told ya it would be a long post, now I'm going to bed!

    Nice report..
Sounds like it was a great weekend of ROH aswell as having the privilege of watching Joe's last match in ROH for a while

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

Deadly review, I'm counting down the days til I get my hands on the dvd!

I was reading a bit of Gregh's diary thing about his trip to England on the ROH forums, sounded like a slight culture shock to him with the prices and stuff!

The thing about ROH is that once you get into it, you're never going to get tired of it. If you become a fan, you stay a fan!

Any word on future UK shows? I'd imagine it'd be stupid of them not to come back next year. And I don't care what happens, I'll be at whatever shows there are!

^ Talk of Oct/Nov this year again.

Amazing amazing weekend. No hyperbole can accurately describe how good the Bricoe vs Briscoe match was.

  • Registered Users Posts: 202 ✭✭jesusjones

I was at the saturday show and was really good thought it was a better show than Unified Briscoes are gods at this stage I wil flat out astounded if they dont find employment in WWE OR TNA soon cant wait for All Star Exstravanga 3 in Detroit should be a great ashow and the tag title rematch is already signed for that shame I will miss Supercard of Honor 2 though as its the Dragon Gate rematch as the main event my mates will prefer to go to the HOF! I do agree that Nigel is in poistion to be the next long term ROH champ and he deserves it fingers crossed on that one. Hopefully next time they will do a show in Irelansd as well we can only dream

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭Double C

Your picking the HOF over Supercard of Honor? Strange move, the HOF will be class but still! Cary didnt answer me either way about the possibility of an Irish show but it would be sweet.

Fozzy, by any chance are your two mates Alan and Duan? Small world if they are!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

Nope, haha. So at least 7 Irish fans went over. I plan to make it eight if a show happens later in the year!

I think I'd be more looking forward to ROH's shows in Detroit if I was heading over to Wrestlemania. Putting that Dragon Gate 6 man tag as the main event is putting a lot of pressure on them though. I'm sure it'll be a great match, even if it doesn't beat last year's one

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭Double C

Ah well, tought I'd just check!

Main event? Has that been confirmed? I thought it was perfect in the middle of the card last year. I take it Morishima isn't making it over for that show so. I just watched his match against KENTA from last Saturday and although KENTA was the aggressor for most of it, Morishima fairly killed him with the offence he had. I can't wait to see him vs McGuinness in April. Still though, its not really going to be a Supercard of Honor if the title isn't defended.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

I believe so, ROH's main page was saying it will be the main event yesterday. Morishima's not scheduled for either of the Detroit shows, but he'll be at all shows in April. Briscoes' rematch for the titles is on the first night

    Mother***********!

On a sidenote, rather than make a thread called ROH in Japan, I thought I'd use this one.
The first 5 NOAH names announced for the ROH show are current ROH World Champion Takeshi Morishima, Naomichi Marufuji, KENTA, Go Shiosaki & Ricky Marvin. Yes, Ricky Marvin.

Okay, I'm a big wrestling fan but haven't seen any ROH until yesterday and that was a match from a few years ago between Raven and CM Punk in a cage.

The match itself was good (as you'd expect from these two), but the commentary was awful and it appeared to be held in what looked like a school gym and not a very big one either.

Have they upped their production values at all in recent years or is it still the same?

Is dailymotion the best place for seeing some ROH stuff (without purchasing the DVDs) or is there anywhere else?

    PM me if needs be.

    Thanks in advance,
    Chopper.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

The commentary in ROH used to be piss poor at times, it was usually when Gabe Sapolsky (ROH's booker), or "Jimmy Bower" was commentatin though. He's stickin to what he's good at now. Dave Prazak and Lenny Leonard have been doing the recent ones (that I've seen anyway) and while I wouldn't call it the best it could be, it's definitely an improvement from the match you'd have seen

They did say that they were improving their production at the start of this year. I haven't really seen any of it though apart from their Video Wire update, but I think the lighting and mics have been improved, and there seems to be more cameras. The venues are better than a few years ago too I think, they at least come across better on screen

There are other ways to watch them, but talking about it would be bold

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,346 ✭✭✭Double C

The production is getting better, but they are a small company still so production values do take a backseat. The commentary is good, I like both Prazak and Leonard, they have good chemistry together, but I find it annoying at times like when a big move is hit and there is silence for 10 seconds after.
They have moved on from the school gyms the shows used to be set in, like the awesome looking Manhattan Center in New York. It took me a while adapting from WWE to ROH, production wise but it really doesn't matter once you get into the wrestling.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

Oh, and one more thing to add is that obviously Dailymotion wouldn't usually be showing the videos at the same video quality that they would be on the dvd

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,042 ✭✭✭✭chopperbyrne

Thanks for all the info guys.

    Fozzy for mod!

Just to let you know, the UK DVD's are out now, just placed my order for the entire Fifth Year Anniversary collection. I suggest others do the same ;)

Agh, it'll be another month before I have enough money for them! I'm dyin to see this year's shows, they sound excellent so far. Probably best I don't get them yet though, studying would take a big back seat to them

I'm just wondering how you keep up with ROH. from what I've seen it's brilliant but I was wondering how you keep involved without big coverage

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

All the main wrestling news sites cover ROH and I'd check out the ROH forums every couple of weeks or so. Once you know where it is there's plenty of coverage!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,478 ✭✭✭Bubs101

thanks, but is there a weekly show?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,594 ✭✭✭Fozzy

No. They tend to have a period around once a month where they'll do 2 shows one day after the other. For example, they had two shows on the Friday and Saturday of WM weekend. Their next two shows are tonight and tomorrow. They'll have another 2 in two weeks time, then 2 more the month after that, and 2 in Japan in July. The dvd's are generally out within 2 months of the events too

But its still on TWCFight right? I haven't watched tv at all in ages but that's normally good to catch up. It is about 6 months behind but you will still get a few good matches in a two hour show.

I tend to just buy all the DVD's. I have every show from early 2005 through to the end of last year, apart from one or two that I read weren't worth buying. TBH though, I can't afford to keep on buying them all so I'll just get the good ones and start reading spoilers on the net instead.

I think it is. I don't have Sky digital, but watchin it after WM in a mate's house, there were a lot of ads for the likes of Danielson and Evans showing clips of ROH stuff

I usually give every thread a quick look on this forum and to be honest when I saw this thread, I didn't think I was gonna read much of it because well, I don't watch ROH. I've seen bits and bobs from it but I've never actually sat down and watched a full match. Anyways I ended up reading this whole thread simply because everyone here who is a ROH fan, seems extremely passionate about it and based on that im gonna give it a go. Im a tad bit broke ATM so haven't got the cash to be going out buying DVD's so can anyone link me to some ROH goodness?

I just can't get into ROH at all, i've given it a try so many times, and i see it the same way as i see ECW, which is "meh". But i didn't come on here to bash the promotion or it's fans. But to give ROH credit where it's due. As wrestling fans in general can be the most fickle bunch of people going with their opinions changing as often as their socks. But when it comes to ROH fans, they've always come across to me as loyal as they can get when it comes to the promotion.

    VR!

Here's a few good/great matches that I found off Dailymotion:

The Briscoes vs Austin Aries and Roderick Strong

    KENTA vs Low-Ki

    Bryan Danielson vs Paul London

    Samoa Joe vs Austin Aries

Samoa Joe & Jay Lethal vs Low-Ki & Homicide

    Delirious vs Nigel McGuinness

And if you've got an hour to spare, it would be an hour well spent watching
Samoa Joe vs CM Punk II

But when it comes to ROH fans, they've always come across to me as loyal as they can get when it comes to the promotion.

ROH obviously isn't for everyone, nothing is. ROH puts the emphasis on wrestling, and they really do give their fans what they want. WWE's never going to please all their fans because they have so many with wide-ranging tastes, but with ROH's smaller fan-base (although it's getting bigger all the time) I think they're better able to cater to exactly what it is their fans want. I think that's a big reason for the loyalty. I like wrestling, and ROH have never let me down!

^ That KENTA Low Ki match is amazing. One of the best Ive ever seen.

Dickmcsavage: If you want to try getting into ROH, the following are must have DVDs

    Unified
    Dragon Gate Challenge.
    Supercard Of Honor
    Better Than Our Best
    Final Battle 05
    Final Battle 06
    Figth Of The Century
    Joe Vs Punk II
    All Star Extravaganza II

Go to ebay and look for a seller called outcastvideo. Very reasonable prices.

I only started watching ROH about last June, and Ive already seen 40+ shows. Best promotion Ive ever been a fan of. But I see why VR doesnt get into though. Its a matter of taste.

I agree it is a matter of taste when it comes to ROH but i think its the best promotion in the wrold they know how to put on a show and now that Ihave seen 3 roh shows live in person (UNIFIED,FYF:Liverpool and All Star Extravinigansa 3 in Detroit which is the next show they will be releasing soon on DVD I would like to add to the shows previously mentioned by gimmmick

Death Before Dishonour 2 part 2
    Glory By Honour 3
    Homecoming

and theres many more but if you want to start somewhere Supercard of Honour is it I think the best show I think ROH have done. Good luck to them and roll n the UK shows again in October!

    Manhattan Mayhem
    Final Showdown
    Nowhere to Run
    Joe vs Kobashi
    Main Event Spectacles
    Punk: the Final Chapter
Death Before Dishonor III (when Punk wins the title)
    all deserve a mention too.

I really cant wait to get my hands on FYF Finale, I said it on the night and although I was a little drunk, I think its in the top 3 best shows ever.
