Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Seems like netmeter is more than doubling my actual usage figures, so I'm going to have to find some kind of alternative...
    any suggestions?
oh yeah, one that ignores local traffic would be ideal!

Haven't used it in quite a while but maybe DU Meter it is Vista compatible (advertises the fact) but not sure about local traffic options.

Gave DU meter a shot and it's doing the exact same thing as net meter...
it doesn't seem to matter what kind of traffic (http or torrent), both apps still just double whatever is actually coming down and getting uploaded.
Kinda bored so thought I'd post some pics of it:p

    hmmm... good point actually:D
i'm just a little pissed off that I went way under my allowance last month thanks to this

    Any other suggestions?
I'd rather be using something that I'm certain is providing accurate results, than just guessing that half of the amount is correct...

Change your provider to something a bit more customer's friendly if you can and you will not have to worry anymore about your band usage.

Anyway, if you want to have a proper and realistic figure, the monitor would have to be installed on the NIC which has internet access.
So it means you need to have 2 NICs on your router, which is probably not your case.

I do not see any other way to monitor your internet traffic.

You can use netstat -e to get the amount of traffic on an adapter. Check to see if that matches what DU Meter has for amount of traffic transferred...

According to netstat -e. I've downloaded 800MB in the past hour... which is the same figure DUmeter and Netmeter are showing.

    Utorrent correctly shows 360MB down...
Don't know wtf is going on here... I might try installing a spare NIC and using that instead

Well that reads all network traffic, including information such as network transfers that wouldnt be shown by uTorrent.

Anything else comming down the pipe?? You copying from other machines on the network.

Nope, there's always < 1KB traffic when the connection is idling, and like I said earlier in the thread it's misreporting http traffic as well.
and I should've mentioned this earlier, but DUmeter and Netmeter are both reporting 1.4MBps download speeds (on 6MB NTL, so can only ever get ~700KBps downloads)

Sounds strange ... wonder is a driver issue or a misreport by vista

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,339 ✭✭✭✭tman

    Gods knows...
Just tried installing my spare network card and now 700K down is reporting as 2.2MB
    bloody computers!:p

Gentlemen (and Ladies??), to get DU meter to correctly display your bandwidth usage you need to go into the options dialog and click the drop down for “Network interface to monitor” find the network controller for your system, Ie; for my system it was “NVIDIAnforce Networking Controller [8]” the # 8 is only referring to this options position in the list. Click apply and you should be good to go.

By default DU Meter is set to monitor “All Interfaces”. With Vista there is two IP interfaces, “Internet Protocol Version 6” and “ Internet Protocol Version 4”. Which run simultaneously, DU Meter is seeing each of these as a separate network interface and is effectively doubling the reported speeds.

my god that's a freaky coincidence!
I went back to xp soon after starting this thread, then decided to try vista again this afternoon.
thanks a million for that, Netmeter's setup is almost the same and it seems to be functioning properly now.
    legend:)

I'm trying to follow the postings here ,in relation to whats happening with my downloads.

If I click to download a file ,it's downloading faster than I'm use to. Is this not the case ?? ,is vista already downloading the file as you choose a destination for it . And the progress bar increases steadily ,regardless of the amount it has already downloaded ??
