Oh like to point out I didn't cheat!!! It would be pretty pointless!!!
I just remembered a guy in my school a few years back, got 550 in the mocks and went down to 510 in the real thing.

I think my brother went down in the real thing, dunno what he got in the mock but it was like 260 or 270 in the LC.

It is a scary thought, I've heard of a guy went down 100 from 550 to 450, and in fairness it's a disaster waiting to happen to an intelligent yet naive person, someone who got very lucky in the pres or, of course, someone who cheated quite a bit in the pres and sort of...forgot afterwards.

That said, it seems to happen rarely, that example is the only example I can give you, I'm sure in many of the cases people keep their mouths shut about their newfound results.

I know someone who went from a 55% to A2 (not sure the percent). But that's only one subject I suppose.

I'd love to know the percentage... but don't worry you will go up, as will I, and so will the majority of us on this forum, if anyone has any sarcastic comments to make whilst quoting me for saying this well... I don't care, make em and waste your time.

Well, I know someone who went from 16% in Maths to C1 standard in the leaving.
I think the mocks can be a load of bollocks in most cases.

Lads I think the most important thing to take from the Mocks is not necessarily the results but the experience. Sitting so many long exams in a short space of time is tough.

On the points though, nearly everyone I know did at least as well in the real thing. Personally, I went down from an A1 to an A2 in 1 subject, but went up around 50 points altogether. Can't remember what I got exactly in my mocks but it wouldn't have been possible to go up much more.....

why worry , your overprepared for the leaving cert and theres a backdoor into everything these days. Try college with more exams, no-one to tell you to go to lectures, crap food, drinking more frequently and no-one to tell you to stop your going to far. People are now going to say that well you'll be studying something you enjoy add therefore its easier but in every subject theres some kind of hard work to be done be it english or maths. so after 8 months of study you'll get in
    i) arts ; exams on 4 subjects ( only exception to my argument but this degree is only useful on its own to the top 10%)
ii) commerce ; exams on 10 subjects
iii) engineering; exams on 12 subjects

In short a lot larger workload in a shorter time, so why worry the big challenge is yet to come!

it's not saying that you shouldn't look forward to college, the socialising and discovering yourself and freedom for the first time i'm sure will more than compensate for the increase in work. Just wanted to point out how the LC is so overhyped and that everyone will be grand :)

So far I've gotten 84% in honours Music and 86& in pass Maths. Results seems a bit pointless at this stage since mock fever is well and truly over. Nonetheless I'm hoping to get the other 5 results tomorrow.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 482 ✭✭Steve01

5 results in so far. Still waiting on Irish and History so I can tot up the points so hopefully I'll get em tomorrow.

    English - 77%
    Maths (OL) - 86%
    French - 65%
    Biology - 86%
    Music - 84%

I went up 40 points from my mocks. They say that the average student goes up about 80 points.

    In college now, doin engineering.
30 hours per week (same as skool but alot more most other courses)
Lots of projects in short space of time.
    maths, maths and more maths

But its all worth it. Great nitelife. meet new friends. independence.
Definately worth putting in the effort

So I finally got my last two results today. 79% in Irish and 66% in History. History was marked appallingly by some femi-nazi who didn't know the meaning of the words "marking scheme". That brings me up to 475 points in total. Law in UCC was 485 last year though I'm pretty confident I can come up by a substantial amount more than that. Especially in French and Irish with marks allocated for the oral exams.

I don't know about you guys, but in my old school, for a lot of the mocks they picked some all the toughest questions from various past papers, so we wouldn't do as well, and be "inspired" to study harder. Tough love, I suppose.

    Those w***ers.
