EGR Valve

I have an Ibiza 03. I got my EGR Valve replace the other day after the engine saying it needed to be done and it wont pass the NCT. Light came on again to say the valve is gone so the garage is ordering another one in. Could it just be a faulty valve or could it be some sensor gone?

had mine replaced during the week.part cost €186
