Second Life (redux)

    I had tried second life before and tbh I hated it, too laggy and annoying and bad graphics. Think around that time I lasted all of 15 mins before giving up.

    For those who don't know it. The game is a free online virtual world. I should stress it is not a game. There are games in it. Also the currency is interchangable with RL cash.

    So thought I'd give it a serious bash again. Made up a new character and bought about 2000 linden (the currency, thats about 4 euros I think).

    First up found myself a shop and got myself some decent clothes and a haircut. Also bought a demon avatar (looked cool so wanted it).

    Wandering around tbh I couldn't find anything of interest. What wasn't lagged was trying to sell me stuff. I checked out IBM campus. It's huge and while cool looking was for the most part deserted.

    I did find this funny though at one of the shopping malls.

    Using the search feature I could find nothing that wasn't sex releated in some way. Checking one of the nightclubs (which was very empty) I did bump into someone.

    She was good enough to give me a break down of what to look for and what to watch out for. She mentioned the place is infested in areas by furries. So for a laugh I did a search for a furry nightclub. This is just so wrong.

    Leaving that I tried a roleplaying areas. The vampire one I couldn't enter for a week and the other one was a D&D one where my first meeting with the RP'ers wanted me to kill them.

    For a laugh thought I do a search for Ireland found this...

    Yes it was raining rainbows and shamrocks. The Irish bar was done like someone who was probably American and never was in Ireland. A furry showed up as well to make it more authentic.

    Before logging tried another nightclub when I had a crash mid conversation with another avatar (who was working up to soliciting me). When I came back she gave me details on how to fix the crash so I threw her 200 linden. 3 mins later I am surround by woman avatars asking me how am I getting on and am I enjoying myself etc. :)

    I read about this game few days back... Said to give it a try, didn't buy any lindens (as you have to pay real money for them).

    I spent most of the time trying to change the looks of my character and that was it. I walked around the place, found it huge, empty and boring.



    Does anyone actually play this game? What is to be done there?

    I broke it. Im stuck on the same old tutorial at the start. It's the clothing tutorial. :mad: I live day by day with the same clothes..its SOOOO like real life :D

    tried it before... never spent money in it or anything, but i couldn't get over how lagged it was. how anyone could enjoy that experience with that amount of lag is beyond my comprehension. it was right back to battlefield with me!

    Actually you can earn them in game for free. I earned 60lindens just leaving my character to dance while I watched TV.

    If you are anyway good in designing or artwork you can make good money in game.

    Chatting to some of the avatars who have gone the oldest profession route they make anywhere from 500-5000 lindens an hour depending on skills. But like the other skills requires down payments to get your character setup to entice and building in animations, advertising, etc. Some apparently offer webcam services for 10 times that.

    It technically isn't a game. TBH I would of said it is more like IRC you can walk around in, but there are a few places that actual RL business takes place like the IBM + Circuit city lands.

    There are games in it. For example there is a Roleplaying city of Vampire storyline, there is RP furries (afaik) and there is even D&D + Dune areas.

    Found some nice places. Will post up some SURLs later.
