I have a large attic space that was left 'conversion ready' when my house was built- i.e. stairs in place, reenforced joists, floored, wired. I want to turn it into a master bedroom with en-suite, and I'm looking for someone to do a smart, well finished job. Someone who has both pride and a bit of vision. I'm in Co. Meath and I'm lookning for some recommendations to avoid just sticking some pins in the Golden Pages. Did that last year trying to find someone to do decking and patio, and the parade of cowboys and no-shows broke my heart. Anyone have any good experiences/recommendations.

You might get a better response here.

We had our attic converted last month. We live in Dunboyne. We just converted the attic into one large room (we want to use it as an office) - no loo.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the builder - he's a carpenter by trade. He started from scratch (put in velux windows, floored attic, arranged plumber to move water tank, arranged electrician to wire it to our specs, fitted stairs, arranged for plasterers to finish the job, also did a few other bits and pieces for us) and had it finished to plaster stage in two weeks as originally agreed.

He cleaned up every day after himself.

You're welcome to come and view it and then see if you want the guy's details.

That all sounds pretty good. As I say, it's more of a finishing job I need doing than a start from scratch. Did this guy prime the whole contract and work to an original estimate?

Okay apologies, I'm not familiar with the lingo!

If "prime the whole contract" means "did he arrange all the tradesmen and purchase materials himself?" then the answer is yes.

And yes, he worked to his original estimate.

I understand that you have most of the preliminary work already done so you're in the opposite situation to us really.
We just had a basic 4 bed semi that had no work done to the attic previously. Now we have a fabulous room which is ours to finish as we please.

I don't know if he's more interested in "starting from scratch" or "finishing off". I'll PM you with his details and you can check with him yourself.
