    Hi,
Long time reader in the motors forum, haven't posted much though.

What is involved in scrapping a car, in terms of paper work etc...

Or can you just bring to a scrap yard and they'll look after it for you

Contact the manufacturer they are now legally obliged as on Jan this year to take back End Of Life Vehicles free of charge although you still have to bring it to one of their authiorised centres ie scrap yard !

Ok, its technically not at end of life
Its NCT is expired, without spending serious money on it to get it nct'd which it may not pass anyway, its my partners car so we're thinking just of scrapping it as it isn't being used at all...
Might ring the local garage, its a daewoo matiz, so even if we sold it we wouldn't get much for it

What car is it, if is rear wheel drive and running i might be interested... As for paperwork there's a form you can get from motor tax office to say it's bee destroyed by scrapping/permanently dismantled or sent out of country, also you can say this when you return your tax reminder notice

what year is it and what need to be doone with it

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭sofireland

    its 2000
Needs new battery and brake pads to be re done
I've the pads at home, just never got round to it
Also two new rear tires needed.
Apart from that low mileage, and when it runs it runs fine.

You gonna let herself drive the Corolla?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭sofireland

Maybe, she don't need the car, she is working in the big smoke now so she's on public transport at the moment

Added to the fact we've put a deposit down on a new house, selling it would raise valuable euros to go towards something for the house.

Sell it for €1 - cheaper then going to the hassle of scrapping it.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Don't scrap it, that's worth at least €1500 even without NCT and with a little bit of work to do

    Thank you! Someone speaking sense!
